When Nikolai and Becca meet, it’s their differences that draw them together. Sparks fly as they share a whirlwind of adventures, all the while dodging his royal guard. Excerpt

Nikolai opened his eyes, chilled, as a cloud blocked out the sun. Next to him, Becca slept, her hand curled in his. She smiled in relaxed slumber.

He gently released her hand and looked around. A couple of people lounged on the distant beach and a lone man sat in the sand with a camera aimed straight at him. The hairs on the back of his neck stood up.

Nikolai turned his back to the beach and nudged her. “Becca!”

“Hmm?” She stirred.

“There’s a guy on the beach and I’m pretty sure he’s taking our picture.”

Her eyes sprang open. “What?” She sat up and spotted the man. “You think he’s paparazzi?”

“It sure isn’t a random tourist aiming a long lens at us. How the hell did he know I was here?” Nikolai slid on his shorts.

“Oh crud.” Becca grabbed her clothes and quickly pulled them on. “You think he’s been taking pictures of us sleeping?”

“That and more. Lord only knows how long he’s been here.” He didn’t notice him when they were in the water, but that didn’t mean he hadn’t been lurking in the trees, snapping pictures.

Nikolai stuffed their leftover lunch items into his backpack. How did this camera-wielding jerk find him?

Dressed, with everything packed up, they headed for the motorbike. Their path unfortunately forced them to pass the creep with the camera. Nikolai pulled his baseball cap low and hid behind his sunglasses. He led the way with Becca’s hand firmly in his.

“Prince Nikolai, why did you run from the palace?” The photographer, a short, heavyset man with cameras strapped across his chest moved closer.

Nikolai picked up the pace, but the man stayed with them, walking backward and snapping pictures. This was no official appearance where Nikolai owed the press a friendly smile and kind word.

“Do your parents know where you are?”

He ignored him.

“Your friend is beautiful. Is she the reason you fled? What’s her name?”

Nikolai bristled and fought the urge to shove the man to the ground and bust his camera. He glanced at Becca, her face pink with embarrassment. She didn’t need to be targeted by this oily loser.

“Have you heard that your sister, Princess Alexi, has gone missing?”

Nikolai hesitated for an instant, but then hurried on. The man was lying. He was sure of it, and he wouldn’t let this vile intruder ruin their day.

They reached the bike. He hurried and strapped on the pack and hopped on. Becca climbed up, hugging him from behind. Nikolai liked the feel of her body secure against his. It made him feel better able to protect her.

The photographer kept snapping pictures and wouldn’t back off. “There are rumors that you have renounced the throne,” he baited.

Nikolai stiffened, but didn’t give him the satisfaction of a reaction. He started the engine.

“Where are you going next?”

“Wouldn’t you like to know?” Nikolai grinned, revved the engine, and spun gravel as they raced away.

We all love book boyfriends, so Man Candy Monday is all about sharing the love…and the hot guys around by letting everyone know the book boyfriend you have been swooning over this last week, and why!

This week The Book Lovers is featuring Andrew Parrish – The Edge Of Never by J.A Redmerski

hhhhMy Andrew is Grey Damon

I cannot begin to tell you how much I LOVE LOVE LOVE Andrew Parrish. I freaking well adored him from the first moment he arrived on the page and how much he protected Camryn right from the start, even though he didn’t know her, he felt drawn towards her.

Andrew and Camyrn spark up a friendship and he teaches her how to live when they go on a roadtrip around the USA, not wanting to return back to their hometowns and wanting to forget everything in the real world for a little while. Andrew teaches Camyrn to live, to own her sexuality, to conquer her fears and her past and come out of her depression and confide in him about things she couldnt with her first love. He brings out things in Camyrn that makes her better. But Camryn does the same for Andrew too; they both push each other to be the best they can be and in turn, they both fall for one another.

I loved the closeness, the banter, the friendship that they both had together and then how they fell in love. They were made for each other and Andrew really lived for the moment and if you have read this book, you will see what happens in the end. You will sob and see exactly why Andrew wanted to spend time with Camryn and didn’t tell her what was going on as he didnt expect to find love.

Andrews tattoo and the story behind why he had it is amazing and i loved that he bared his soul about it and how he wanted his soul mate to have the missing parts tattooed on them so when they touched, they were in perfect sync.

So that is why Andrew is my mancandy this week. He isn’t perfect, he’s got a massive secret but he shows Camryn how to live and in turn, finds his soul mate.

It will be the greatest test their newfound love has faced – and their love may not survive.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

My Review

What would you do if the love of your life could somehow be related to you?

Nicola and Greg meet at work. Nicola, after being burnt by her ex-boyfriend, who was also a colleague, has sworn off dating colleagues since then. But then she meets Greg and he proves to her that he would never hurt her and bit by bit he breaks down that wall and they end up falling fast for one another, becoming engaged after just six months.

Three weeks before the wedding and a trip to meet Greg’s family in Seattle, Nicola mentions her circumstances of being adopted after showing a family photo to Greg’s mother. In turn, Greg’s mother Mona is forced to confess and reveal a shameful moment that happened to her 36 years ago; a secret she has kept hidden from everyone. She had a baby and left it, just like the story Nicola told them.

After the revelation, Greg and Nicola’s relationship changes. They both struggle with the fact they could be half-brother and sister, but they try to put it at the back of their mind until the DNA results come back. But it’s harder to forget this situation and it challenges them both. What will happen if they are related? Will they break up and never see each other again or will they break society’s rules and run away together, some place where no one will ever know their secret?

Their love is being tested to the limit and will all these ‘what ifs’ in the way, will their love survive this terrible ordeal?

I came across Too Close on accident really. I was just looking for some books to download on Amazon and this book sprang to my attention. Clicking on it to see what it was about, I knew I had to read it. I had never read a book about a couple maybe being related but from the start I was completely hooked. I wanted to know how the realization that they could be related came to light and how it was dealt with as really, it is such a delicate and emotional issue to deal with but I felt Ms. Krall wrote this book spectacularly. She dealt with the issue in a seriousness matter but also in a way to kind of bring a light release to the issue.

She had me feeling every emotion all the characters’ felt, especially Greg, Nicola, Mona – Greg’s mother and Gwen – Nicola’s adoptive mother. I could see everyone’s side during the waiting for the results, especially both Greg and Nicola’s constant arguments over the whole ‘sibling’ thing because they both had very different views on what to do over it. I was on edge until the DNA results were shown because I just had to know the outcome. I had come to love Greg and Nicola and I hated that it could be over before it truly began for them. I love it when books evoke a whole load of emotions from me because you know it’s a great book when that happens!

As the synopsis mentions, Greg and Nicola meet at a bar one night where everyone from work goes to on a Friday. They seem to really get on and there is an obvious attraction for both of them but Max, a work colleague, tells Greg that Nicola doesn’t go out with work colleagues since her ex-boyfriend cheated on her throughout their relationship with her boss. Greg is determined to make her change her mind about her rule and starts off little, asking her out just as friends. Nicola knows this isn’t true, that it is a date, but somehow she doesn’t seem to care. She likes Greg and after a few more dates, it seems the rule is broken.

They fall for each other fast. Spending nearly every day together and one night, after being together for 6 months, they talk about children and getting married, which leads to them becoming engaged. Although it seems rushed, you can really see the chemistry and the love the both of them have for one another and when you know you’ve found the one, why would you wait? Love has no time limit.

Nicola’s parents and siblings really like Greg, so when it’s her turn to meet Greg’s parents, three weeks before the wedding, shes really nervous. She gets on well with his parents and his sister but when she tells the story of her adoption that is when everything goes pear shaped and secrets from Mona’s past  are about to come to the surface and are set to test their relationship and love for one another. Could Greg and Nicola really be brother and sister?

It was so heartbreaking to think that they could be half-brother and sister. It tore my heart apart that Nicola and Greg loved each other so when this revitalisation came to light, it was so hard to watch them both struggle over what to do about that information and how to handle it. Greg seemed to adjust to it, trying to push it to the back of his mind. This was HIS Nicola, and no way could they be related, it just couldn’t be. But Nicola had a hard time dealing with it. She had never wanted to meet her real mother and knowing that the love of her life could be her brother and knowing Mona could be her mother just didn’t feel right to her at all. It was all she could think about.

Greg tried so hard to get her to forget that they could be related. He’d tell her that it’s ‘just me, it’s just us’ and he would do anything for her. For them to spend two weeks not knowing what the results of the DNA test would be was completely harrowing and gripping to read.

Greg has strong religious beliefs and so he knows that incest is a sin. Whereas Nicola isn’t religious and she wants to fight for their relationship if they are related. They fight a lot over this; religion being a main factor over the fights. I also though Greg was being hypercritical over the whole incest fight they had. It seemed he was okay being with Nicola knowing they could be related the past two weeks but when she tells him that there could be a way they could stay together if the results came back positive, he just went off the rails about how incest is a sin.

To love someone so much and find out you may be related, it’s got to be heartbreaking and emotional and such a tough situation to go through. I really understood the way they were acting; biting at one another with their ‘what if’s’ but also needing to be with one another, to support each other throughout the turmoil until they got the results back. I could never imagine myself in this situation, let alone think about what I would do if I was in this position.

I could really feel the emotions pouring from Nicola and Greg. To be put in this position, then having to wait for the results would cause havoc and uncertainty for anyone who goes through results like this or any other results.

You really do root for them not to be brother and sister though, because they truly are meant to be. They have both been badly hurt in the past and to finally meet and fall in love in such a short amount of time seemed like the right thing for them. They loved each other dearly and it’s clear to see they would do anything for one another. Greg fought from the start to breaking down Nicola’s barriers and thank god he was the one to break her rule. It was clear there was an instant attraction between them that going fast was just something that happened and it felt right.

I really don’t want to tell you what happened at the end with the results and I don’t want to write about the end and whether I enjoyed it or not because that would spoil the outcome. Let’s just say I cried at the results and leave it like that.

There are a few scenes I loved reading but I have to say the ‘bondage’ scene at the hotel. That made me completely giggle when I read it because they are both just so comfortable together, they both kind of take the piss out of BDSM, with Greg telling Nicola she would be a rubbish sex slave. I could definitely imagine that scene playing out in my mind, at how at ease they were together and how they could just laugh at the toys in the box that Greg’s sister sent them. It was nice that they could just forget about the situation they were in, even if it was just for a couple of hours. Where they could just be together and not worry about anything.

Gosh, you really do go through the emotions reading Too Close but I am so glad I found this book and got the chance to read it. It was great to see how this situation affected the families and friends they both had and their input and advice into their situation. Each character had something different to input and I loved the friends that Greg and Nicola had, they were with them from the start, supporting them.

Elizabeth Krall has written an amazing book in Too Close and I insist that you all read it!! It is different from other books I read, as I have yet to read a book like this, but boy am I glad. It’s a page turner. It’s about love, a struggle, a journey but most of all fighting for love. I definitely recommend this book to you all!

My Review

“For the first time in my life, I’ve felt whole, alive, free. You were the missing piece of my soul, the breath in my lungs, the blood in my veins. I think that if past lives are real then we have been lovers in every single one of them. I’ve known you for a short time, but I feel like I’ve known you forever.”

Twenty year old Camryn Bennett has always been different to her friends. She’s been one to over think her life and she knew that she wanted more; more than just a repetitive lifestyle. She had her life planned out with her boyfriend Ian, until an accident took him away from her. Since then, she hasn’t been herself and a black cloud has overtaken her.

One day she just decides to pack a few essentials in a bag and get on a bus. She’s fed up of everything happening in her life, from her brother in prison, her parents’ divorce, and her best friend accusing her of being a lying bitch. She decides to start living for her, hence setting out on a road trip to Idaho, even though nothing is really there for her. You’ll see why she picks that place when you read this book.

When she steps upon the bus, little does she know everything is going to change and her life will turn upside down for the better.

Andrew Parrish is 25 and on a trip from Texas to see his dying father in Wyoming. It could have been easier to get on a plane but he decides to get the bus instead. He’s in the same mindset as Camryn where he needs time to think about everything that is happening in his life and what he’s going to do. You will definitely fall in love with Andrew. I want him to take me on this road trip and show me everything that I am missing in my life!

When they both meet, its obvious Camryn doesn’t want to speak to anyone. She’s there for herself, to travel alone and when she gets to her destination, she’ll turn around and go home. She only wanted this trip to discover herself and sort out her thoughts and feelings. Little does she know, but Andrew’s protective instinct takes over when a man is constantly checking out Camryn, not to her knowledge, and he does everything to make sure the man stays away, which leads to small talk and then they slowly build a friendship spending the trip together and even beyond that when they decide to just drive anywhere, to really live on the wild side without any planning or thinking about where they are going.

They were both characters who were amazing together. They both pushed each other to be themselves, especially Andrew, who makes Camryn come out of her depression and her shell and admit things she wouldn’t even dream of to Ian. He makes her push past her past, makes her be fearless and to own her own sexuality. In turn, they fall in love and it was like they were truly meant to be and truly be on the same bus together. The banter and flirting made their friendship all the more important to me, and with the alternative POVs from both characters, you begin to see them falling for each other but because of their own personal trauma’s they just didn’t want to admit it, thinking it was easier to keep at arms lengths. But love concurs all in the end.

This book and their journey really made me think about my life. If I could, I would pack my stuff up in my duffle bag, go to the airport and get the first flight out of Wales and just live my life to the fullest. You see the pain from both of them, but together they manage to make each other come alive and slowly the pain simmers away until love overtakes and they both feel alive being together. Meeting one another on the bus was definitely fate; to bring them back to life with the help of each other.

I have to say, when I finished this book, I was walking around my house like a zombie. I didn’t know what to feel because so many different emotions were pulsing though me. I was happy, sad, and distraught and all these feeling were swished about together that I was going “I don’t know how to feel.”

I had seen so many people raving about this book and I just had to download it right away. Sweet baby Jesus, this book did not disappoint at all. I was captivated by the synopsis, then every single scene that occurred throughout the book. I do have to say; I’ve never cried so hard or so much reading a book as I did with The Edge Of Never.  My mother even asked me who had made me cry and I had to tell her it was this book, which made her laugh. My heart was breaking at what I was reading and I kept throwing my Kindle down and taking deep breathes throughout one particular event because I couldn’t handle it. When books turn me into an emotional wreck, you definitely know it’s a great book to read!

Seriously, you HAVE to give this book a read. I know I say it about many books I read but when you feel so passionate about a book, you really need to make other people read it and see why you love it.

“Have you ever wondered what it would be like to backpack across the world? Just you and a backpack with a few necessities. No bills. No getting up at the same time every morning to go to a job you hate. Just you and the world out ahead of you. You never know what the next day is going to bring, who you’ll meet, what you’ll have for lunch or where you might sleep.”

Wallbanger – Alice Clayton

15858248Synopsis

Caroline Reynolds has a fantastic new apartment in San Francisco, a KitchenAid mixer, and no O (and we’re not talking Oprah here, folks). She has a flourishing design career, an office overlooking the bay, a killer zucchini bread recipe, and no O. She has Clive (the best cat ever), great friends, a great rack, and no O.

Adding insult to O-less, since her move, she has an oversexed neighbor with the loudest late-night wallbanging she’s ever heard. Each moan, spank, and–was that a meow?–punctuates the fact that not only is she losing sleep, she still has, yep, you guessed it, no O.

Enter Simon Parker. (No, really, Simon, please enter.) When the wallbanging threatens to literally bounce her out of bed, Caroline, clad in sexual frustration and a pink baby-doll nightie, confronts her heard-but-never-seen neighbor. Their late-night hallway encounter has, well, mixed results. Ahem. With walls this thin, the tension’s gonna be thick…

In her third novel, Alice Clayton returns to dish her trademark mix of silly and steamy. Banter, barbs, and strutting pussycats, plus the sexiest apple pie ever made, are dunked in a hot tub and set against the gorgeous San Francisco skyline in this hot and hilarious tale of exasperation at first sight.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

My Review

“Open this door you asshole, or I will come through the wall.”

Caroline Reynolds is an interior designer in San Francisco. She’s recently moved into a new apartment with her cat Clive. It’s a great apartment, but there’s just one thing that riles her up nearly every single night…

Enter Simon. He’s the neighbour who has late night wallbanging sex with a different girl each time. You have the girl who giggles, the girl who meows and the girl who likes a bit of spanking. It angers Caroline to no end that he keeps her up at night but even more so, it causes her to become sexually frustrated since she’s lost her O. And yes, that means her orgasm.

Since a bad date ended with sex, the guy she slept with has taken away her O and she loathes him for it. So after weeks of hearing but not seeing the guy who keeps her up at night – and not in a good way – she confronts him when he’s in the middle of his throne of passion and it begins the making of their friendship.

Simon, Simon, Simon. What can I say about him? He’s sexy, funny, caring, a photographer; he travels AND he would definitely give you the best night of your life. Alice wrote this guy to an absolute T. I loved the banter between him and Caroline. They had me laughing so hard at their scenarios and conversations, especially their texts. He’s fond of Caroline and you can also tell he can be sensitive, which is an instant attraction. He definitely would be my type of guy.

Caroline was a great character. She was content in being alone and would happily admit it, but damn girl; she really needed someone to get her O back. She could give as good as he got with Simon, which made their friendship stand out to me. It was flirty and witty and of course there was chemistry between them but it just took a while for them to do anything about it.

The sexual tension between them both literally sizzled out of the book. I could feel it on every page I turned. I did love when they finally had sex. It was long awaited but it was definitely the right time for them both. They were unconventional in the way they began the relationship but it was a great read when they got together.

The sex doesn’t come until near the end of the book but the book was so much more than that. It was about friendships between each other and their friends, being sexual attracted to one another yet not doing anything about it because their friendship seemed more important at the time even though they both wanted something more, and when it did happen, it flourished at every turn.

I bloody loved the names they had for each other, such as Wallbanger, Cockblocker, Nightie Girl etc. They totally made the story and the relationship between them. I have to say though, my favourite scene was when they were ‘telling the truth’ and you finally saw Simon spill his true feelings to Caroline. For two people who wanted to match up their friends together, they took a long time to finally tell each other they had feelings for one another.

This was the first book I had read of Alice Clayton, but the RedHead series looks so good that I will be downloading those books right away!

Seriously, you need to read this book. It had me feeling so many emotions throughout the book and I fell in love with Simon. He was such a character, as was Caroline and they were matched perfectly for one another. So glad I downloaded this book, I couldn’t put it down at all. So going to have to reread this soon.

He’s prepared to show the well-heeled princess how wild he can really be, but what he didn’t count on was her rising to the challenge.

——————————————————————————————————————————————-

My Review

I really enjoyed this book. The front cover is a bit off as it wasn’t a sexualized book at all. Of course they did have sex, but once, if not twice and it wasn’t erotically written either which i really liked as many others seem to take it too far describing every bit. I read this as i think it was free on amazon but because i am a graduate journalist who wants to become a travel photojournalist, this book appealed to me – plus the romantic aspect of it as well.

The way it was written, from both the main characters developments and how they act around each other and to the way Louise wrote the description of the Antarctic was just visionary. It made me want to be in the book and witness what Taj, Georgina and the others were looking at and experiences.

Taj tries to push Georgina to the tip so that she crashes under the pressure of this job, but she catches on and proves to everyone that she can do whatever is thrown her way. At one point, Taj and Georgina are partnered together and she ends up saving his life, which turns their ‘relationship’ around.

It was short but sweet and I did love the ending.
