“Please Liv, you have to eat something,” begs Max.

I tighten the covers around me. I’m not hungry, but I keep quiet. If I speak, even about food, he’ll think I’m ready to talk. There’s nothing else to say. I poured it all out when I got home and there’s nothing left. He stayed with me all night, held me tight while I cried and now he is fussing around. He wanted to call everyone to tell them I was safe. But I warned him not to call Danny. I said he could let Mum know I was okay but that was it. No details and under no circumstances were any of them to make any contact with Danny either. I can just imagine Mum and Grace as vigilantes and, while I want him to hurt, he isn’t worth it.

“I’m going down to check on things, I’ll bring you something up anyway.” He says quietly. I don’t respond.

In the silence of my flat, my ears ring. I hate silence, I always have and without thinking I get out of bed, wrapping myself in a blanket, and sit in front of the TV. I find a film on a movie channel I’ve seen before and sit and ignore it. It’s better than the deafening silence. Now that I’m upright, I ponder what to do next. I know I have to pull myself together today, Connie is flying home. Ugh! She won’t let me just wallow, she’ll make me talk. I need to get up, shower and go to work. Keeping busy is my only option, it’ll keep people off my back.

As I adjust the temperature of the shower, I examine my options. I don’t really have any. It’s not like life was going well before I allowed Danny to walk in and screw me over. I have to just try my hardest to get back to normal as quickly as possible. I should have trusted my instincts. Danny was just human after all, hurting me was almost inevitable. Sadly, I knew that but the naive teenager in me just got sucked in for old time’s sake. I knew this would happen, I was safer with Mark, at least I could take that on the chin.

Max is waiting when I come out of the bedroom dressed for work.

“I brought you some coffee and…” He starts as he turns to me. His face falls as he sees me. “Liv, you’re not going to work?”

I walk across to where he is sitting and pick up my coffee. Taking a sip, I smile a tiny smile and sit beside him.

“What should I do then?” I ask softly.

“We have it all covered downstairs. You need to sort your head out.”

“I’m not going to do that here, trust me. I need the distraction.” I put my hand on his knee. “Thank you for looking after me, but I have to get back down there before I drive myself insane.”

He sighs. “Well, you aren’t going anywhere until you eat something.” He holds up a muffin on a plate.

I smile sweetly and dutifully take the muffin. Then, with some physical effort, I force some down. I may as well start now, Connie will be much harder to deal with.

Satisfied, Max sits back and seems to relax slightly. I can hear his cogs turning though and I know he wants to talk. So when he parts his lips to say whatever it is I know I don’t want to hear, I say “I don’t want to talk about it.” Then, getting to my feet, I take the coffee and the muffin and go to the door.

“Coming?” I ask innocently as I head down to the diner.

Jen places a coffee on my nightstand and sits on the edge of the bed. “If they know any more, they’re not saying,” she says softly.

She was just on the phone with Liv’s sister, trying to get more information. But I know all I need to know. They found the note last night when they got back; it said she was going home.

It didn’t say why, but I know.

She doesn’t love me.

She found out I was going to propose and she ran.

Last night after the dust settled, Jen found the ring bag screwed up in the trash. I’d left it out on the counter when I went to go meet Liv at the party and it doesn’t take a genius to see what happened. Liv came back just after I left, saw the bag, figured it out, freaked and then packed her things and left.

Scott and Jen left me alone last night, but only after I insisted. Jen came back first thing this morning though, to make sure I was okay. She wants me to get up and go over to Grace’s to find out what they know, but I don’t want to hear it. I can’t face their pity and I’m too angry to see Connie. This is all her fault. Liv and I were getting on with our lives quite happily until she interfered. Now I’m left with that old open wound and I have to start getting over her again. Except this time, I don’t think I can.

“Danny, come on, drink your coffee,” Jen urges. Reluctantly, I sit up and take a sip.

“Thanks,” I say distantly.

“So what are you going to do now?”

“Nothing,” I tell her.

She watches me as I drink, until I can’t take it any longer. I throw the covers off and get up.

“Are you going over there?” she asks hopefully.

I turn and see her optimistic face. “No,” I say firmly. “I have unpacking to do.”

“Danny! You can’t just give up.”

“Why not?” I scoff. “She has.”

BOOK TOUR: Stay With Me – Elyssa Patrick

Today on The Book Lovers is our stop on the Stay With Me tour. You can find my 4.5 Star review below 🙂

With one look, I’m his . . .

With one touch, he’s mine . . .

With one kiss, it changes everything between us . . .

I’ve been famous since I can remember. Singing, acting, dancing—I’ve done it all. The tabloids cover my every move, but I don’t want that anymore. I want to be normal, whatever that is.

When I leave Hollywood for college in Vermont, I’m on my own for the first time in my life. This is my chance to figure out who I am and what I want in life.

But it’s a lot harder than I expected. I can’t escape my image. Classes are difficult, and I’m struggling. And then there’s Caleb Fox.

Sexy, intriguing Caleb Fox.

Caleb is the one man who doesn’t want to use me. He breaks down my walls. He challenges me. He wants me. And I just don’t know if I can give him the same—or if he’ll stick around when he finds out my shameful secret that the tabloids haven’t managed to uncover.

Dating him is risky enough, but loving him could break me.

4.5 / 5 stars

My Review

I knew I had to sign up to be a part of the Stay With Me tour once I read the synopsis of it. I am a sucker for characters who are musicians, for college romances and of course, characters who have a journey to finding out who they really are and finding love along the way, so I knew I had to read this book and I am so glad I did because I utterly love it! It was so hard to put down and I got sucked into the story, the story of Hailey and Caleb, but not only those two, but Caleb’s sister Daphne, whom turns out to become Hailey’s BBF.

Elyssa Patrick has written an amazing book with Stay With Me. You will become sucked into the story(ies), you will swoon, tear up, root for Hailey to find herself, laugh, smile, feel dislike Hailey’s mother but overall, you will love everyone single part of the book.

I haven’t read a book for myself in ages, but Stay With Me felt like it WAS for me. I didn’t feel compelled to remember it was for a tour, so thank you Elyssa for that. Even if it wasn’t for tour, I would be snatching this book up without hesitation and that is exactly what all you avid readers of my blog should do.

I really love Hailey. She was utterly brave of leaving Hollywood behind, leaving all she has known all her life, leaving behind her mother and her friends and her former life to start over – to start college and be ‘normal’. She didn’t want to sing or act or dance, she didn’t want to be famous anymore, she just wanted a fresh start and find herself, her true self.

Throughout her life she has really been a puppet. Doing whatever her mother puts her forward for, doing whatever her mother tells her and basically having no childhood at all – SHE DOESN’T EVEN EAT DESSERT! She doesn’t trust easily and is afraid people on campus are going to just want to be friends to sell stories to the press.

You can definitely say that Hailey is brave, despite how afraid and scared she is – of everyone around her, of trusting and of letting her heart love. At first she doesn’t want boys in her life, she just wants to concentrate on school, on putting her past behind and being a new person, but then Caleb comes along and it’s getting harder to keep him away, until she caves. She wants him in her life and that’s exactly what she gets because he doesn’t want to let her go.

She learns to lean on him, learns to trust him – even though its hard she gets there and she lets herself fall in love. Fall deeply in love with Caleb because he really isn’t going to leave or hurt her. He loves her like no other and it’s easy to see his love. He will go to the ends of the earth for her, and when a massive revelation is revealed by her mother live on the TV, Caleb stays with her, lets her explain properly what happens and you can see that Hailey doesn’t need to be scared anymore. All her friends love her, she’s doing great in school and has a boyfriend that will do anything for her.

I loved how she persevered through, how she become her true self in the end.

Dear God, sweet baby Jesus, seriously Caleb is like THE best character I have read in a while. He is literally a bit like Kellan Kyle (minus the whole rock star thing.) He’s swoon worthy, sweet, sexy, cute, most definitely has a way with words *fans self in both sexy and sweet way* and you will just love him so much over the love he has for Hailey. Over how much he needs and wants her, over how much he helps her learn to trust and love, over how he is always there for her, through everything and helping her through her fears. You really could not ask for a more amazing book character than Caleb.

He made me melt with the cute things he was saying to Hailey, he turned me on more than once with his potty mouth, the way he most definitely can handle the female body and just won me over in so many ways that this book is still on my mind even now. He SEES Hailey as Hailey, not as Hailey Bloom the famous teenager superstar and actress. He wants to know the REAL her and I think that is what made me love him from the get-go.

He didn’t care about the fact she was famous, he liked her for her. Her sweetness, her crazy and she stole his heart because of it. Because of her strength and the way that although she was so afraid of not knowing who she was, she prevailed, along with his help, and blossomed. Just knowing how much he loves Hailey is every girls dream to be loved the way he loves her – just you wait and see the cutest and sexiness of him.

The secondary characters, like Caleb’s roommates and friends and his sister Daphne. They made the story too. They were funny and excitable and just great characters to add into the mix of Hailey and Caleb. They took the piss out of each other, they all loved one another though and that’s what makes a great friendship group. They all had their own personalities that makes you like each and every one of them and in the background they all look to have their own stories to be told which is why I am so excited to learn more about each character in their own novellas!! Starting with Jamie’s – woop woop!

Elyssa sure knows how to sex up a book. I was no expecting sex scenes, although I really should have been –and holy sweet hell, she really knows how to write them!! Especially with the potty mouth of Caleb. UHH that boy turned me to jelly and the way he just made Hailey feel special and feel all hot and bothered and turned on to the max – GIVE HIM TO ME NOW! I want Caleb because he treated Hailey with so much respect, he treated her right and the sex was steamy. It connected them together, it was amazing and can I say steamy again? Sexy too.

I cannot recommend Stay With Me enough. Here is to knowing about Jamie next and I cannot wait to find out more about Nick and Griff too! Bring on the next books 😀
