 Excerpt

It’s taking me longer than usual to get ready.  Davis is already showered, dressed and out of the bedroom.  I’m moving a bit slowly.  Dragging my feet on purpose?  Still a bit pouty?  I just don’t feel quite right, but decide to pull it together and get going.

I have a great little dress for the party that PJ picked out for me from costume storage.  It’s a red flapper dress, but instead of the usual fringe, it has strips of fabric with jet beading.  It swishes and sparkles.  I also have amazing “underpinnings” as PJ called them.  Red bra and panties with black polka dots and satin trim.  Roll top stockings, too.  Very authentic.  I want to be fun and sexy from the inside out.  I’m feeling pretty good about the outfit.  I’ve spent a long time on my makeup.  Did my research online. Bright red structured lips with a perfect bow and smoky eyes.  The only other time I wear this much make up is on stage.  The final touch is a black bob wig.  Chin length.  Smooth, shiny and sassy.  When I put it on I hardly recognize myself.  I wonder what Davis will think.  As I finish up, I hear the doorbell ring.  That will probably be Smitty.

***

Entering the living room through the French doors of Davis’ bedroom I see there is a pre-party party occurring.  Smitty is being introduced to Kathleen.  Davis has pulled a bottle of champagne out of a bucket of ice and is just pouring the first glass.  He looks up as I come through the doors and has to quickly pull the bottle back, as he was pouring and not looking and almost overfilling the glass.

“Oops, shit,” he says, shaking some champagne off his hand and then wiping it on the towel around the bottle.  “Lizard? God, you look so different.  I mean, Good … Great, like you, but different.  And Jesus, HOT.  Smokin’ hot.”  He is effusive with his praise of my look, while at the same time not believing that it’s really me.  “Smitty, Kath … doesn’t Biz look … Oh my god, HOT.”

I tease him because I’ve never seen him act this way before and I am getting a big kick out of it. “You said that already.”

“It bears repeating.  HOT.”  He is finally making his way over to me with a glass of champagne.  Attired in a tuxedo with his hair slicked back like a 20s gangster, I could say the same about him. HOT.  When he gets right in front of me, he doesn’t touch me, just puts his forehead on mine and breathes out, “I am totally going to get to fuck a hot flapper tonight.  The wait is going to be excruciating” – and then he bites his lip.  Barely touching me and he is arousing all my senses.  Jesus, now my little polka dotted panties are in flames.  And we still have a party to go to.

Love Always, Kate – d. Nichole King (+Giveaway)

Love Always, Kate
Author: d. Nichole King
Publisher: Limitless Publishing

Dear Diary,
Leukemia’s been my life since I was eleven. Now, six years later, I want my life back. Only I’m not sure what that is.

The test results came back today. 22,000. Which means I’m officially out of remission—again.

I have three options:
1. Another round of chemo.
2. A super-new experimental drug.
3. Dump it all— forget the meds and treatments and enjoy the time I have left.

I think I know what I want.

Then, in walks Damian, changing everything.

I mean, everything.

He’s got his own set of issues. It binds us together, you know? We understand what it’s like to lose what matters most in seconds.

Still, the last thing I need is to have someone else to crush if I can’t fight hard enough. And the last thing he needs is someone else to grieve.

Never mind. I’m down to two options now.

Somehow I know that whichever one I choose, the result will be the same. With the sand in my hourglass seeping to the bottom, I hope there’s enough left to show Damian that life’s worth living. Worth fighting for.

Worth dying for.

Love Always,
Kate

Excerpt

Damian sighed and adjusted his
nametag. “I’m the son of Jackson Lowell, Doctor Extraordinaire. That means I
have a lot of time to myself. I play the guitar. Write music. I’ve beaten every
Assassin’s Creed game. And I don’t live up to my father’s expectations. Hell, I
don’t know if I live up to anyone’s expectations.”
“I’m sure your dad just wants you
to be happy.”
Damian grunted. “Whose definition
of happy? His? Mine?” His eyebrows rose. “Yours?”
I shrugged. “Doesn’t happy only
have one definition?”
“Does it? Are you happy?”
I thought about it for a few
moments. I had beaten my disease twice before, and I was determined to do it
again. More than anything, I was happy just to be alive. “Yeah, I am.”
His eyes narrowed. “Having a tube
sticking out of your chest, being hooked up to toxic drugs, getting sick—that
makes you happy?”
“Oh, well, no. But…”
“Not that easy, is it?” The edge in
his voice pricked at me. I couldn’t tell if he was talking about me or himself.
“The outcome of—”
“You don’t know the outcome.” He sounded angry, his eyes blazing. “You only hope it will make you happy. When it
might kill you. That’s reality.”
I pulled my lips tight. “True, but
it makes my parents happy to see me fight.”
“Bullshit. They’re not happy having
a daughter who has to battle cancer. And if you die, well, how can they be
happy about that?”
“If—”
Damian cut me off. “Yeah. If. So
much is based on that word, and there are no fucking guarantees attached to it.
What makes you happy now may be what destroys you later. Or those you love.
Then what? Sometimes, being happy isn’t worth the risk.”
“And sometimes it is,” I said
quietly.
Damian brightened again, offering a
slight smile. “See what I mean? Nothing in this shithole life is easy.”
“Just because it’s not easy, doesn’t
mean it’s not worth it.”
“So tell me then, is it worth it?” His blue eyes searched
mine. “Worth all the time in this place?”

About the Author

Hey! Thanks for stopping by!

Since I was born and raised in Iowa, I like to create stories where my home state is the setting. There’s nothing like small-town Midwest scenery to create the perfect backdrop for an amazing tale!

I’ve always loved to read and write. I’ll read anything: Classics, fantasy, contemporary, mystery, horror. It doesn’t matter as long as it draws me in. As a kid, I was raised on authors such as Lurlene McDaniel, R.L. Stine, Danielle Steele, Mary Higgins Clark, Stephen King, and Shakespeare.

Writing-wise, my fondness lies in the YA/NA genre, though I do have a couple of women’s fiction stories swimming around in my head.

When not writing, I’m usually curled up with a book, scrapbooking, or doing yet another load of laundry.

Along with her incredible husband, I live in small-town Iowa with my four adorable (yet ornery) children and their dog, Peaches.

The Spirit is the first book of The Spirit Trilogy, and is my debut novel.

PROMO BLITZ: Kisses, She Wrote – Katharine Ashe

From award winning author Katharine Ashe, comes an enchanting Christmas novella about a shy but imaginative princess and the rakish Earl who could make all her wildest fantasies come true….

The Christmas season has never been so steamy.

Handsome as sin and scandalously rakish, Cam Westfall, the Earl of Bedwyr is every young lady’s wickedest dream. Shy wallflower Princess Jacqueline Sensaire knows this better than anyone, because her dreams are full of the breathtaking earl’s kisses. And not only her dreams–her diary too.

But when Cam discovers the maiden’s not-so-maidenly diary, will her wildest Christmas wishes be fulfilled in its pages . . . or in his arms?

Excerpt from KISSES, SHE WROTE, A Christmas Romance by Katharine Ashe

“At least you won’t be at a significant disadvantage when you wed,” the princess said thoughtfully.
“Disadvantage?”
“There is . . .” Her voice trailed off. She looked out the window and tilted her head. Her stance was relaxed. This conversation did not, apparently, agitate her as it did him.
“Princess?”
“The thing is, I have never kissed a man,” she said and looked over her shoulder at him. “Will my husband be disappointed to discover that I have no knowledge of kissing?”
Cam’s throat had gone entirely dry. If she had no actual knowledge of kissing, she certainly had excellent intuition.
“Why do you ask me?”
“I cannot very well ask my brother. How horridly embarrassing that should be.” She scowled but her eyes twinkled.
“You might ask your ladies in waiting, or the Duchess of Lycombe.”
“How would they know the answer? They are women.”
He was nonplused. “Well . . .”
She turned to him fully. “You and I are friends, so I trust you will answer me honestly. I know you have considerable experience kissing women.”
His cravat had shrunk again. “Do you?”
She lifted a single, eloquent brow. She was far too intelligent for him, and far too forthright, and he was far too accustomed to consorting with females of much less acute minds and much baser characters. She was not now flirting with him but making a statement of fact.
He nodded in silent admission.
Both brows perked now, like the shimmering feathers of a raven. “So . . . ?”
“I should think that your husband would be delighted to teach you the finer points of kissing.” And learn a thing or two in the process.
“I suppose you may be correct about that. Men like to instruct women. I think it makes them feel more in control.”
He could not hide his amusement. “You don’t say?”
“Well, doesn’t it? You are a man.”
“Good of you to notice.”
“Do you like it when you feel in control of a woman?”
“I like it when a woman feels she is getting what she wants from me.”
Her fine, expressive eyes widened. Then, slowly, she turned to the pianoforte and began rearranging the music on the stand. Cam studied the clean sweep of her back to her gently curved hips and the straight set of her shoulders. She was not petite, not enticingly round, not anything he had ever desired in a woman. But merely looking at her back and knowing what she imagined of him — of them together — made his heartbeats hard.
“I should like to give it a try before I marry,” she said without turning around. Her voice was pitched a bit low. “Kissing, that is.” She glanced at him. Her cheeks were ever so slightly pink.
“Should you?” He suspected where this was going. He’d been the object of countless women’s flirtations. But never this woman. She confined her attentions to him safely in her diary.
This was a different woman before him now.
“Yes,” she said. “I think it would be a useful experience to take into marriage. Don’t you?” She turned her hungry gaze upon him . . .

Synopsis

How long does it take for a long-distance relationship to break down? Sixteen months.

When Jen and Carl put their relationship to rest after Christmas, Jen’s biggest problem is going back to London ten days earlier than planned – and her ever-present attraction to Samuel ‘Bing’ Edwards.

Bing has no idea why Jen left Devon so fast. All he knows is that he wants her as much as he did the first day he laid eyes on her – so spending time with her while Lexy is still in Devon isn’t exactly a hardship for him. When he finds out she’s single, the only thing on his mind is finishing what they started at his dad’s fiftieth birthday party.

Feelings that have been a long time building between the two explode, and they both find themselves sucked into an easy yet passionate relationship, with Bing determined to prove to Jen that she’s it for him. That she is The One.

But in a city like London, the odds are stacked against them, and there’s always that one person ready to stir things up… And Jen doesn’t know how much of that she can take – even for the guy she loves more deeply than she ever imagined, and eventually she breaks.

Bing isn’t down with that. He wants Jen, and he wants her by his side for good.

Jennifer Mason must learn that Samuel Edwards doesn’t do giving up. Especially not when his forever girl is involved.

Synopsis

His challenge? Make her fall in love with him.
Her challenge? Play the player.
Until life changes the rules of the game.

Maddie Stevens hated Braden Carter on sight. Arrogant, egotistical, and the playboy of the University of California, Berkeley, he’s everything her brother Pearce has taught her to despise. So why, when the girls challenge her to play the player, doesn’t she say no? She doesn’t know either.

Braden wanted fiery little Maddie the second he laid eyes on her – and he’d do anything to have her, hence why he’s agreed to make her fall in love with him. After all, it’s the only way he’ll get what he wants. Sex.

But, as Braden discovers, there’s more to the girl from Brooklyn than he ever imagined – and he can’t help but care about the broken girl behind those pretty green eyes.

Maddie finds Braden isn’t just a walking erection – he actually has feelings. He can be sweet, funny and his good looks don’t exactly hurt. That means trouble – but when her brother Pearce turns up in Berkeley begging for her help, she realises Braden and Pearce aren’t so alike anymore.

And maybe, just maybe, they’re exactly what each other needs.
