My Review

So now you’ve read my reviews of Protecting What’s His and Officer Off Limits, it was definitely time to read His Risk To Take (I went a little backwards as this is the second book and OOL is the third, but psssssh, if you give me sexy police officers and hot sex, I will read whatever book I get my hands on first).

I’m just gonna reiterate what I’ve said in the past two reviews. Tessa is awesome. She really draws you in, makes you care for every character (apart from the baddies, whom you just want to pummel with a pole – but then that’s making you care about whats happening so..). You laugh, cry, get all hot and bothered and root for the main characters to be together, you jouney together and alone.

Much like Protecting What’s His and Officer Off Limits, I couldn’t put the book down. Sex scenes on public transport, being all hot and bothered in work, wanting to jump the next guy I saw. I was also crazy public transport woman, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. This series is a brilliant read and all the things I’ve felt along the way just add to the amazingness of them.

Let’s start with Officer Troy….uh I just quiver thinking about what you can do with that pool stick hahah. But he is one sexy officer! Hes protective and possessive and such an alpha male but he also had a vulnerable side. A side that although he kind of hides, it’s there. There from his past that’s why he transferred to New York.

He was adventurous but when a fatal accident happens to him which makes him fear now, fear that he too will lose someone again if he gets close to them. He feels guilty for something that wasn’t his fault and he can’t let it go. Once so free, hes now reserved, playing by the books and not taking risks. That is until Ruby walks into his life.

Ruby. Seriously, she is awesome! She’s a BAMF and a pool hustler. She really knows how to hustle but she only does it to survive. To pay her rent and bills and she’s trying to turn her life around, open her own business after college and leave her past behind her. Leave what she knows behind her and start afresh. After all, it was her father and his ‘best friend’ who got her into hustling and now she does it alone, hoping to god she doesn’t get beaten up by the men she hustles. But if she did, shes strong enough to know how to beat the crap into them.

She’s independent, strong willed, spunky, sarcastic and has a smart mouth that gets her into trouble a lot with Troy…which leads to hot sex. Yes, I would run my mouth too for the things that man can do. But she’s also pretty vulnerable at times, and you see her caring side for her best friend near the end and here about her cleaning him up throughout their lives too. Despite her strength, shes still a young woman who wants to feel loved and wanted and there are times when her barrier wavers a bit especially when her relationship hits a blip and also when shes in danger. Against everything, it was nice to see her walls cave in and learn to trust, as she doesn’t trust easily at all.

I think she is my favourite heroine out of the three books. She is just pure awesomesauce. She can hold her own and as I’ve mentioned before, all of the heroines are strong females and it just makes me so happy that they are needy or pathetic and can definitely bite back!

Ruby turns Troy’s life upside down. He’s fallen pretty fast and after finding out about her history and how shes linked to the investigation he’s on, hes shit scared that hes going to lose her too. He can’t have that guilt on his head again, having one persons death on his conscious, even if it wasn’t his fault, is enough for him to follow and feel for himself. If he lost Ruby, he would have no clue what he would do. Thank god Ruby is a strong female who can look after herself, its what shes been doing all her life.

Although all three books follow the same kind of plot, with the action being towards the end, His Risk To Take is such a different book. The heroine is more spunky, the hero more vulnerable and perhaps more afraid, it was a turn of events and it made me love this book so much. I love the hustler and the cop being together. It’s fun and you would never see that happening, but it works. It works because you see another side to them both, a side that they want to show to each other, a side that they want to change for the better. Ruby wants to change her life, open her own business and Troy wants to not feel guilty anymore. They both help each other out.

The sex scenes…well. As always, Tessa makes me shitting hot as! You will be quacking haha. Just read the pool table scene…..FOOKING HELL. Troy….what a man, what a man. A man we all want in our beds…along with Daniel and Derek…..in the same bed. WOOOOW, what a combo that would be…and such a goddamn good motherfucking time.  You wouldn’t be walking for a while haha, anyway on a tangent here, the sex is just wow, and it proves how strong their connection is, even after a few days. I really believe things like this happen, and thank god Tessa has written books where you fall after a few days, because it really can happen…in my eyes anyway.

How many times can I commend Tessa Bailey for these books? Well, a lot!! Strong female characters, dominating alpha males with potty mouths with an awesome storyline and copious amounts of hot sex. What is there not to love?

So now I have reviewed all three books, seriously what in the world are you waiting for? I’ve given you  sexy quotes, told you all about the amazing couples and a brief outline of the story, so go to Amazon, click those 1-click buttons and enjoy these books like I definitely did 😉

17281601Synopsis

Kylie Wolfe and guitarist Wyatt McCrae have been bad for each other for the last several years, but it’s impossible for them to end their toxic push and pull. Not when their attraction is constantly fueled by lust and proximity—she’s her older brother’s Lucas’s assistant and Wyatt is his best friend and band mate.

So when Your Toxic Sequel makes a move to record a new album in Nashville, Kylie decides to make the latest break with Wyatt official by getting the hell out of town. She’ll spend a week in New Orleans. A week to immerse herself in the Mardi Gras scene. One week to not think about the last time she was in New Orleans, seven years ago with Wyatt. Seven days where she won’t have to see Wyatt every day just to fall ridiculously in love with him all over again—where, if she wants to, she can have a normal, no-strings attached fling that won’t end in heartbreak.

Too bad Wyatt ruins everything by showing up, as gorgeous and demanding and goddamn awful for her as ever.

Wyatt refuses to let Kylie give up on him. Not without reminding her why they both fell so far and hard in the first place. Not without making her savor the good memories and what could be their last chance with each other.

Note: This is a spinoff from the Devoured series.

Holly’s review

Savor You is a spin off from Emily Snow’s Devoured series, which I absolutely loved!! I mean, what’s not to love about sexy rock star Lucas Wolfe and his band Your Toxic Sequel? So when I heard that a book about Lucas’ younger Sister and PA Kylie, and his guitarist Wyatt was to be released, my expectations were high. But that’s probably where I went wrong. Because I was left feeling kind of let down by Kylie’s story. Don’t get me wrong, I still thought it was good, but I didn’t love it and I truly hate to say that because I think Emily Snow is a fantastic writer.

Kylie and Wyatt have had a crazy on-off relationship for 7 years. It’s intense and toxic which is never a good mix but no matter how many times they get burned, they keep going back for more. Just as Kylie finally decides to kick the habit and end things with Wyatt for good, he has other ideas. He turns up at the end of her vacation and asks for a few days to try and prove to her why they should give it one last try, by taking her to places that had memories for them, so she could remember why they fell in the first place. Their relationship wasn’t exactly stable, but I loved Wyatt for doing this despite the fact that most of their past encounters were tinged with sadness, they still meant something to him.

There were quite a few aspects of the story that I enjoyed. We find out the meaning behind Kylie’s many tattoos which really made me feel for her and I found myself hoping she didn’t get any more for this reason. The name “Brenna” popped up quite a few times and I really wanted to find out who this girl was and how she came between Kylie and Wyatt at some point in their past, and when her identity is revealed I was seriously surprised and I loved it!! We get to Lucas again and I still loved him just as much as in Devoured and what made me love him even more is that at the end of Savor You, we get to see Lucas’ POV from the end of Devoured and it is awesome!

Two characters that really stood out for me in this book were Kylie’s BFF Heidi, and YTS band mate Cal. I loved these two so much! They really bounced off each other and left me wanting more, so I was really happy when Emily told me that depending on what the fans wanted, she has plans to do books in this series for Cal and Heidi, and Sinjin and a mystery lady. So if you read this book, make sure you tell her how much you loved the secondary characters, and fingers crossed, we will get more.

Overall I found myself wishing for more energy to Savor You, but to be honest, I don’t think Kylie and Wyatt’s story could be told any other way. It wasn’t all happy, hearts and flowers. It was tough. It was intense. It was broken. But it was theirs. Unfortunately it just wasn’t for me. I still love the Author’s writing and I will continue to buy future books from her including this series. I am still very much a fan of Emily Snow and I look forward to reading what she brings out next.

Perfect Partners – Stephanie Cage

17251838Synopsis

“What’s he doing back in London after all this time?”

Eight years ago, Lisa Darby’s dancing partner and first love, Redmond Carrington, left London for a fun summer on the cruise ships – and never came back. Lisa’s grown up a bit since then, and she’d like to think she’s prepared for anything, but when Red comes back from America with a proposal for her, she’s not sure she’s ready for what he’s suggesting.

A TV studio is filming a knockout competition of six of the world’s best couples – each of them partners both on and off the dance floor. Redmond wants Lisa to pose as his girlfriend so that they can compete. It’s an unbelievable opportunity for an aspiring professional dancer, and the spectacular prize money would help save Lisa’s beloved dance studio, which is in need of major renovation. Scooping the prize is going to take the performance of a lifetime from Lisa and Redmond, but with the sizzling tension between them, they might just pull it off.

It turns out that putting on an act for the cameras is the least of Lisa’s worries. As time goes on and she rediscovers her feelings for Redmond, she’s left questioning what’s really behind his offer, and where their partnership is heading this time.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

My Review

It’s been eight years since Redmond walked out of Lisa’s life to work on a cruise ship for the summer. Eight years since he left and never looked back. Until now.

Redmond has spent the past eight years in America dancing. Lisa has tried to forget about him but being her dance partner and the guy who stole her heart at eighteen, it comes to a shock that he’s now back in London for a few weeks. He wants them both to compete in TV dancing show called Couples to win money to keep open and refurbish their old dancing school. Only thing is that they need to be an actual couple and so Lisa agrees to pretend, for the sake of saving the dance school.

It turns out that even after all those years apart, the chemistry is still as obvious as it was when they were teenagers and it was like they were never apart. Faking it in front of the cameras isn’t the hard part. The hard part is all the feelings resurfacing for Redmond which leaves her questioning his actions between the two of them and what he really wants out of this competition and them after so long.

Stephanie Cage emailed me last night asking if I would like to review Perfect Partners. Reading the synopsis and staring at the book cover instantly grabbed my attention and because I love dancing shows, I just had to email back and accept her offer of receiving a review copy. I was drawn in from the start. Instantly intrigued from the first page, as the opening line is “What’s he doing back in London after all this time?” Yes, I wanted to know why he was back too, so I knew I had to click through the pages, to find out the reason Redmond was back after so many years away.

Stephanie’s writing flowed with ease, from page to page. It was like I was hypnotized and I would not stop turning the pages, wanting to try and figure out myself why Redmond was back, if Lisa’s paranoia was something that was true, if they would win the contest. Perfect Partners really does hold your attention and before you know it, you would have finished without a second thought of the time passing you by.

The imagery Stephanie portrayed with all the descriptions of the dances had my mind playing out the sequences that Lisa and Red were doing, imagining all the costumes and make-up that Lisa had to wear too. It truly was a great way to imagine all the glitz and glamour of the dancing world and the chemistry that poured off Lisa and Red in my head during both the dances and outside the TV show.

Perfect Partners start with Lisa asking Elaine – the owner of the dance school – why Redmond was back in London and why he wanted her to dance with him in the TV competition. She agrees, after some deliberation and finds out that Redmond is downstairs, waiting for her. Pushing away her nerves, she goes to meet him and even after eight years, it was like all those years just merged into one.

I loved the fact Redmond and Lisa could just easily get back into how they were years ago. Remembering the old dance routines, keeping up with one another and pushing their boundaries with more daring moves. It was great that they could just flow back to the old times. Saying that, I did feel sorry for Lisa at the beginning. Although she and Red were nothing more than dance partners in their teenage years, she was burnt by him when he left and after a couple of postcards he just stopped all contact. For him to come back after all those years and not say anything about his going when they first saw each other again, made me so angry at him. But then I felt angry at Lisa too. She could have scowled him the moment she saw him about why he never came back, why he never stayed in touch. I would be fuming at him thinking he could just come back and make me enter a competition with him without so much as a ‘sorry’.

But throughout the book, you DO find out why Red didn’t return and why he didn’t keep in touch. It tore my heart that they both processed strong feelings for one another but Red was scared about them. But now he was back, he wanted to make it up to Lisa; to prove he won’t leave again.

You go through a journey of dance and emotions with both Red and Lisa. You see how much they fit together, how easy it was to fall back into being dance partners and friends once again. Especially with old feelings resurfacing for Red, from Lisa. It really was a love/hate with Red. At times I felt his feelings for Lisa were pure. That he really did want to be with her and he really did mean what he said but then when Lisa began doubting it, I did too. She planted these doubts in my head too with what she was over thinking.

I think that came from her independence though. She had spent so long being independent and for Red to come back and tell his feelings for her, it’s enough to turn your world a bit topsy turvy as you now have someone who wants to do things for you. I did admire her for not wanting anyone to do anything for her, because it proved she was a strong woman but Red let her be independent but would do anything for her, if she asked him too.

At the end, it all comes to light about why Redmond was back and why he wanted to do the TV show. I have to say, the amount of phone calls he got throughout the book and the trip back to America made me a bit suspicious about him. I really thought he had a kid back in America but thank god I was mistaken. I loved what he did and the reason for it.

He really did redeem himself though, and although he should have told her at the beginning what the calls were about, I could see why he didn’t too. But then everyone seemed to know apart from Lisa but I could see why he wouldn’t tell her because he’d been away and not spoken to her for so long that he just needed to know if she still felt the same way as he did.

I do love Red though. He did take me a while to warm up to, but after, I just wanted to be his dance partner. He’s all muscular and has such a passion for dancing. You can see the passion burning from within him, but other than dancing, his other passion is Lisa. There are hints throughout the book that the feeling is mutual, even though they haven’t said anything to each other, but Lisa is oblivious to it, until Redmond tells her his feelings. He’s not a man that speaks a lot, but reading his speeches, I was hooked on him. He was there for Lisa throughout everything that happened in the weeks they spent together and they were such the perfect couple, regardless of Lisa’s doubts that she planted in her mind. He didn’t do anything to make her distrust his feelings. Not really.

The scene I loved was the last one actually. I know what sounds really bad, but trust me, the book is amazing! But I just loved when Lisa’s was really upset and Red seemed panicked over it, wondering why she ran off and what was wrong. He told her everything and completely put her mind at ease that nothing about this was a publicity thing; that he kept everything a secret from her because he wanted to make sure she would talk to him. It was a great scene and you really felt and were shown the powerful feelings Red had for Lisa and that he would do anything for her, even if she thought dance was number one and she was number two, which at that present moment in time wasn’t true, as they had both missed the results of the winners, deeming her more important, especially after his confession.

Perfect Partners definitely has a Strictly Come Dancing/Dancing with the Stars feel to it. I’ve been a fan of SCD for years and I knew I had to read it. It took me back to imagining the couples dancing together, the chemistry, the dance routines and dances and rooting for my favourite couple to win. Which of course, was Redmond and Lisa! You totally have to root for them!

Stephanie Cage has written a great book in Perfect Partners and if you are looking for a read which includes dancing, old and new feelings, a hunky man in the name of Redmond, perfect imagery and a journey throughout the show and their personal life, then definitely download this book tomorrow (Monday 25th Feb). You won’t be disappointed at all!

Lexi, Baby (This Can’t Be Happening #1) by Lynda LeeAnne

16124537Synopsis

Alexis Sky Martine thinks of herself as the average girl-next-door that does what she has to do to get by, have fun and enjoy life.
She is madly in love with her sexy, drop-your-panties-at-first-sight, hottie boyfriend who is equally in love with her; more like downright obsessed. He treats her like she is his heart; like he needs her to exist; like he would do anything in his power to make her happy.
Lexi knows Landyn James loves her just as much as she loves him, if not more. Deep down, she also knows high school sweethearts aren’t expected to last, but their relationship is different. They are soul mates. Their connection is unbreakable.

What could possibly go wrong when you have love like that…?
Everything.
What will the future hold…?
Only time will tell.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

My Review

Lexi and Landyn are high school sweethearts. They are totally and utterly in love with one another. Or in Landyn’s case, he’s utterly in love and highly possessive of Lexi. He treats her like she’s the air he needs to breath and he would do anything in his power to make sure she is happy.

But one night at their last high school party before college, the night takes a turn for the worst and Lexi is left downright heartbroken at what has just happened and what she has just heard that she is left with a shattered heart and her trust for men tarnished. She moves away with her best friend for college but her life will never be the same again. Little does she know that years down the line, the stars have led her towards a path she never thought she would come across again…

I’ve been singing this since I finished the book – “Holy shit, holy shit, he is so possessive, he is so possessive, it’s so hot, it’s so hot.” If me singing this does not reiterate how AMAZING this book is, then I’m just a mental case! Grab your copy right now and start reading it because it had me captivated from the first to the last page. It took me – oh like 2 hours to finish it and this is the second book I have read today.

The synopsis is only a glimpse of what this book is about. There is so much in the plot that you will not want to put this book down for anything. I didn’t even put it down to pee that’s how good it was – and I know, too much information. Lexi and Landyn are deliriously in love with one another, but one stupid mistake from Landyn breaks everything they have built together, down. Lexi leaves him and tries to get over him and her heartbreak but 6 years later, and Landyn is back in her life and turning it upside down once again.

Landyn. DAMN BOY! From the first description I was sucker-punched by your beauty and how attractive and utterly smoking you sounded. But when everything blew up at the party, holy moly you asswipe, why did you do it? I really tried to hate you for the pain you caused Lexi, but it was too hard. I saw the pain and anguish in your face, and although I don’t condone what you did, I felt so sorry for you. You really loved Lexi and knew what you did was stupid and wrong but I knew that no matter what, you’d never give up trying to win her back, even if it took years.

Fast forward 6 years later and HELLO LANDYN! It’s good to see you old chum. You’re still as possessive and sexy and dominating as you were at 18. Jump in my bed and abuse my body please? He was such an Alpha male it was literally a turn-on. He always said what he was thinking, even if it was blunt and he was never afraid to express his feelings, regardless of who was about, he would shout his feelings to the world which is what you definitely want in a guy – someone who isn’t afraid to express their emotions!

Sweet baby Jesus, the sex was steammmmmming! Holy hell, I need some dominating sex right now because all I can think about are how great Lexi and Landyn are together. I like dominating and possessiveness when the sex isn’t BSDM – Which thankfully, no BSDM was included in this book. You could see how in love Landyn was with Lexi. His love for her consumed him and he still loved her after all the years they were apart. She was a part of him that he just could never see being without – like a jigsaw puzzle. Even if he never found her again, it was like no other girl would be able to match up to Lexi that much you could see. I would really like him to say “Zoe Baby” to me, because every time he said that to Lexi, my heart skipped a bit over the endearment.

Lexi was left severely heartbroken when she heard what Landyn had done. She loved him with all her heart and really thought they were going to be together forever. Even with her heart shattered, she and her best friend Trish moved away to college but that’s when everything in her life changed. I don’t want to tell you what happened but Lexi has to grow up pretty darn fast and in a way, that’s okay with her. She has Trish to lean on for support through it all, even if it should have been Landyn. She’s learnt to grow a thick skin and she is fiercely independent and protective of her little family. She still thinks about that night 6 years ago but she’s still trying to get over it with the help of Ryan – her boyfriend. Although it seems like she loves him, I suppose there will always be a little reminder in her head that he isn’t Landyn – no matter how much she wants to forget, he was her first love and her only love. Lexi doesn’t take any crap off anyone too, especially Ryan and Landyn and she will definitely knows what and who she wants. I’m just glad she knew her mind when Landyn came back, even if she should have told him the news 6 years ago!

Oh swoon, I loved Trish. She was mouthy, independent, and ballsy and would protect Lexi from absolutely anyone. She wasn’t afraid to tell it how it is or try to kick some butt! But underneath her bravado is someone who keeps up appearances. You find out some information that makes you want to give her a massive hug.

HELLLLLLLO Adam you sexy beast. He was exactly like Landyn and I loved him too! He was sexy, flirty and a police officer who wanted to keep Lexi safe – not from Landyn I may add! But also underneath his bravado he has also been burnt by the love of his life and I’m just hoping that he gets a book so we can find out even more about his life.

Ryan. I never liked him from the get go. Sure enough he helped Lexi out the first time they met with a handsy customer but he seemed a little too weird for my liking. Work consumed him and although he loved Lexi he has a messed-up way of showing it. What he did was not excusable and to use verbal and physical abuse is not okay in any circumstances. I’m just glad that Lexi can hold her own and fight back and I’m glad that she had Trish around when shit hit the fan.

This book has everything in it. From drama, cuteness, sex, laughter, consuming love, possessiveness and friendship. It does deal with serious issues such as verbal and physical abuse, albeit the verbal is over a few chapters and there is one scene where it is physical, but still, it is handled carefully and sensitively by Lynda, and it added into Lexi’s character who took no shit from anybody. The ending is left on a cliff hanger, but a cliff-hanger for Trish – who the second book will be about. GIVE IT TO ME NOW! I need more of these characters in my life!

Everything But (Tangled Web #2) – Jade C. Jamison

16029536Synopsis

High school English teacher Erin Lancaster is stuck with the unwelcome job of filling in for the injured cheerleading coach, but she wants to back out when she discovers she has to be auctioned as a date during the annual spring fundraiser. She’s horrified to find her rock star crush Riley Schultz, former frontman of Spawn, will be playing emcee for the event, but she’s even more shocked that he also happens to be the highest bidder for her affections, and sparks fly when she discovers that maybe their attraction is mutual.

Riley’s been in the music business long enough to know that true love is not in the cards for him, but the cute blonde he’s dropped a wad of cash on would be a welcome distraction during his vacation. He has no idea there’s more to her than meets the eye.

Will one week together be enough for them to quell the flames, to enjoy everything but?

Warning: Not for the faint of heart! This book contains explicit sex and naughty language. Proceed with caution…if you dare.

Everything But is the second novel in Jade C. Jamison’s Tangled Web series. It features a little fun with handcuffs, an everything but sex scene that’ll make you giggle and blush, and a lot of heat!

——————————————————————————————————————————————————

My Review

“You know Mr Schultz, I was prepared to give you everything…everything but…”
“Love?”
“Yeah…but I think you even got that out of me.”
“Only fair, Ms. Lancaster, since you managed to get that out of me too.”

Erin is an English teacher – in no way is she a cheerleading coach – but that is exactly what she is for a couple of months since the Coach has busted up her leg and is now in a cast from thigh to toe. Reluctantly agreeing to sub the team, their annual spring fundraiser is coming up and Erin, as the sub coach, is dragged into be auctioned off for a date too, much to her dismay.

It’s one thing to be auctioned off but it’s another when Rockstar God Riley Schultz is presenting the auction, especially when Erin has a crush on him and as he’s the highest bid for Erin, earning himself a date with her.

Rockstar Riley has come back into town for a week or so, while his new album is being mixed. His mother – who is on the school committee – has volunteered Riley to be a part of the auction, and although he’d rather sit on his mothers couch watching DVD’s, when he spots Erin, he can’t take his eyes of her and so that’s why he’s the one to win a date with her…at $500!

I absolutely loved the sexual tension in the car on the way home from the date. Especially when Nine Inch Nails’ Closer came on the radio. Bloody love that song and oh my god, it was the perfect song for how Erin was feeling – all hot and bother, and I would have totally felt the same way too!

This story, in my opinion, is about two tormented souls who have been scorned by ex-lovers in the past. Spending the short time together, they both begin to feel something for the other, completely new and scary territory for the both of them as they don’t want it to end up like their previous relationships. They tackle some major issues during the days they spend together – Riley’s family included –  and get to know one another, which makes them fall that little bit more for each other.

Since reading Tangled Web, I was so excited to read Riley’s story and this book was everything and more. Riley has been dragged through so much in his past, from drug taking, groupie sex, alcoholism and generally being a bad boy, but when he meets Erin, who is slightly conservative shall we say, and vows to be celibate after two crappy relationships, everything turns upside down for him and it was a nice change to see some feeling flair from Riley.

Although there is a part where he acts like a jackass, I could see the conflicting ways of his actions. He really liked Erin but didn’t know what she was after from him and so acting so out of character (to her) would make it easier for him to walk away. Hm big mistake there for him but whatever the outcome – from both their actions – they just can’t seem to stay away.

I now come onto the sex. Holy Jesus moley! Every sex scene had me wishing I was Erin, and I’d like to say – Riley can definitely handcuff me any day…I just need to find him first! I could feel the chemistry sizzling between them both and I loved the build-ups to each sex scene. There was so much passion I didn’t know what to do when I was reading it. I was getting flustered!

It has now totally turned out to be one of my favourite books. I was completely captivated by the storyline, especially how they were both afraid of love. Riley and Erin, albeit, seemed to go through so many rough patches during the week, finally came together at the end pushing past everything that had happened throughout the week, to finally finding that they can’t be without each other, no matter what is put in their path to stop them.
