Finding Cinderella – Colleen Hoover

18593175Synopsis

This novella is a companion novel to the Hopeless series, but can be read as a standalone.

A chance encounter in the dark leads eighteen-year-old Daniel and the girl who stumbles across him to profess their love for each other. But this love comes with conditions: they agree it will only last one hour and it will only be make-believe.

When their hour is up and the girl rushes off like Cinderella, Daniel tries to convince himself that what happened between them only seemed perfect because they were pretending it was perfect. Moments like that with girls like her don’t happen outside of fairytales.

One year and one bad relationship later, his disbelief in insta-love is stripped away the day he meets Six: a girl with a strange name and an even stranger personality. Daniel soon realizes the way he pretended to feel about Cinderella and the way he really feels about Six may not be so different after all. Especially when the two loves of his life end up being one in the same.

Unfortunately for Daniel, finding Cinderella doesn’t guarantee their happily ever after…it only further threatens it.

My Review

GOD! Is there anything Colleen Hoover can’t do? She is pretty damn amazing in my eyes and every single book she has written has instantly become a favourite of mine and hot damn, Finding Cinderella, despite being a novella is pretty bloody perfect in my eyes. I want to thank Colleen for writing Daniel and Six’s story (I WANT…no NEED more of them though) and for making it free. That is an amazing thing to do, to thank us fans for loving you and your books. Even if it cost a bomb, I would have paid whatever to have a bit of Daniel in my life. I fell hard for him in Losing Hope.

Finding Cinderella, albeit a novella, makes you go through all the motions that a 300+ page does. Colleen Hoover knows emotion, she knows how to write it and how to drag it out of the reader. She knows how to use humour and angst and everything in between to keep you hooked, to keep you reading and who cares if this is 100+, this book has EVERYTHING wrapped up inside. The characters are developed, just like every single book of hers, the storyline drags you in, you fall for the characters, their lives, their emotions and you want to be with them and friends with them. Dear god, I will be fangirling so hard over Colleen on the 9th of this month when I meet her.

We previously met Daniel and Six in Hopeless and Losing Hope, as they are Holder and Sky’s best friends, who are always there for them throughout everything. It was great to finally see them get center stage and get to be loved like Holder and Sky’s love. They are both freaking fantastic characters, both outspoken, funny, sarcastic but definitely loyal and protective to their best friend’s. So when they meet for the first time when Six is back from Italy, and Holder tells Daniel not to do anything, well, of course Daniel isn’t going to listen to him.

Colleen gets suck right in from the first page and we all know that Daniel didn’t get given a lesson during a fourth period and hangs out in the closet and then BAM one day, a girl falls on top of him crying and thus begins the find for Cinderella when she leaves him a few weeks down the line. Never knowing each other’s names, nor what the other looks like, Daniel wants to find her but he never does find her…

So I don’t want to spoil what happens or anything but that cupboard changes Six’s life and dear god, when everything is out in the open, you will feel the utmost pain go through you, you will cry your eyes out for her and for Daniel. They fell for each other so fast and hard and god, you just know they are the ones for each other just like Holder and Sky. They go through so much in the short space and come out the other side.

You see their vulnerable sides, their fierce side, their loving side and their carefree sides. We all know Six’s personality, even from the short appearance in Hopeless, and although she has changed a hell of a lot during her year in Italy, you can see that she still has that spunk, that fun-ness to her, despite thinking over the time in Italy and what was left behind. She and Daniel are just perfect together and I am SO HAPPY that Colleen has decided to write a feature length book on these two because I cannot get enough of them!

‘Daniel’ even gave me a nickname and that nickname is ‘Sugar Boobs’ I will cherish this nickname (I call my friends ‘sugar tits’ so I suppose this is convenient and super bloody freaky that Colleen gave this to me HAHA). I have to say as far as Novellas go, THIS THIS THIS is the bloody best one I have ever read and I have read a lot. God, I just love Colleen so much and I cannot wait to meet her next week 😀

Officer Off Limits – Tessa Bailey

17910375Synopsis

His need to possess her is non-negotiable.

Story Brooks’ fiancé just called off their wedding two weeks before the happy day. As if that isn’t bad enough, her semi-estranged father, an infamous NYPD hostage negotiator, has suffered a heart attack. Not wanting to examine her lack of emotion over the broken engagement, she hops on a plane to reconnect with her father before it’s too late.

Playboy hostage negotiator Daniel Chase has never, not once, been refused by a woman, so when a debate over hospital snack foods with a delectable kindergarten teacher ends in flat-out rejection, he makes it his mission to seduce her. His only obstacle? She’s the daughter of his mentor who implicitly forbade Daniel from pursuing her.

Despite her father’s warnings and Daniel’s troubled past, Daniel and Story can’t resist their intense attraction to one another. But when the reason for her fiancé’s abrupt wedding cancellation comes to light, can Story and Daniel’s already forbidden relationship survive?

My Review

Since reading Protecting What’s His, I have been grabbing my sides (and clenching my legs ;)) to read the next two books from Tessa Bailey. I couldn’t resist anymore and I couldn’t stop thinking about them so Officer Off Limits was the next book I literally devoured.

As I mentioned in my review for Protecting what’s His, I couldn’t put it down. Ms. Bailey engrosses you within the story, rooting for both hero and heroine, making you fall in love with them and mentally telling them what to do, as well as picturing yourself having sex with the hero….yes, we all do it, don’t be shy now.

I read the majority of books on the bus and trains to and from work, so I have so many different facial expresses but when sex scenes appear, they get me highly strung…seriously people, don’t read sexy books in public places, you will want to jump the next boy/girl who sits beside you. Don’t worry that didn’t happen but the book will be on your mind all day until you can get your hands back on your kindle to finish it. THAT is the type of book I love, the one where the story plays all day in your mind and you just need to know the ending. It surely didn’t take me long to read 😉

After her fiancé called off their wedding just weeks before the big day and her dad, whom she hasn’t seen in years decidedly has a heart-attack, Story Brooks decides to visit her dad in New York while examining why she isn’t broken up about her engagement.

While she’s there, she meets her father’s partner, Daniel Chase. Playboy Daniel was recruited by Story’s dad when he was younger and her dad has been his mentor throughout the years. Never thinking himself good enough for love, he jumps from bed to bed never staying long enough for anything serious, until he spots Story. Her blasé attitude only makes him want her even more but when he finds out she’s his mentors daughter, he’s forbidden from pursuing her.

But the chemistry between Daniel and Story is just too strong and despite the warning, they cant stay away from each other. Story learns about Daniels troubled past and helps him learn to love, whereas Story wants a rebound yet does she really? When everyone finds out the real reason for the cancellation of the wedding, can Story and Daniel’s relationship survive?

I’m going to start with Daniel. HAHA but of course, who wouldn’t. You all know me by now, such a book boyfriend whore so I HAVE to start with the guys first 😉 But yes, DANIEL CHASE! I pretty much love him (as I do with other BBF I’ve written about). He is primal and possessive and raw but he doesn’t think highly of himself. He doesn’t think hes worthy of love because of his past and being thrown around the system and that one event that changed him and shaped him into what is now his career. Because of this self-doubt, he whores himself around because he thinks hes not worthy of being loved, or even loving. Oh baby, you are sorely mistaken about that.

He is great at his job, been with plenty of women so he pretty much knows the way around a woman’s body but when he spots Story, hes taken aback. She is something different altogether and it’s a damn shame she is off limits, but does that stop him? Fuck no. He wants her, want to get to know her and he knows there is something between them, something more than a quick fuck. He’s hooked from the get go and now it’s time to prove that this is more than a rebound, that it’s something real.

I loved Story. She is a kindergarten teacher and when her fiancé breaks off their engagement she just has this blasé attitude towards it.  Like she didn’t give a shit that they were no more, she just ordered cake and champagne to go. THAT made me laugh so much. She’s strong willed and feisty and spunky and she can give amazing banter back but shes caring and sweet and wants to see the best in people. I suppose that is from being a teacher. You can see that she does take after her dad though; you will see why when you read it.

Tessa surely makes her heroines strong and feisty and I love her for it! Her characters aren’t pathetic, they have pasts but they power through them, coming out in love and happy in the end. They can give as good as the hero’s can and can make their own decisions upon what he right and wrong. You watch Story and Daniel fall in love over the few weeks they spend together, and you can see that they really do deserve one another.  This was no rebound, this was their forever.

I’ve mentioned this in Protecting What’s His review but TESSA, where the hell do you have the ideas for these sex scenes? Jesus woman, you are killing me every single time. I need a Daniel to recreate them. Tessa has me squirming and I need to jump someone. The sex is just raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw and throw me against a wall and take me sex and the things that man can do in 60 seconds? WAAAH I want. The sexual chemistry and all the sex really intensified their connection and brought out another side to Story, which I loved as it brought her sexy shell out.

You totally wouldn’t mind Daniel in your bed; seriously, you will be fanning yourself and this one scene? Oh Oh Ohhhhhhhhh yes please. 😉

Tessa Bailey has really done it again. She brings feisty, caring heroines, possessive and dirty mouthed alpha males, humour, sarcasm, hot sex scenes and a great plot within this book which I can tell you is hard to not read once you’ve read one book by her.

If this review doesn’t get your butt over to Amazon and pressing the 1-click button, I’ll leave you with these two quotes…..

“Do you feel that gorgeous? I keep my cock hot and hard for you. Only you. Any time you want it, you just crawl right onto my lap and take what you need.”

And

“Fuck yeah. Bite me gorgeous. Mark up my whole body. I want everyone to know who I belong to. Who I get hard for. Just you, Story. Just you.”

Lawful Escort – Tina Folsom

Synopsis

A take on a Pretty Woman romance.

Daniel works too hard and rarely plays. But when he has to travel to San Francisco and needs an escort for a social event, the beautiful Sabrina shows up on his doorstep. Suddenly work is forgotten.

Little does he know that Sabrina isn’t an escort, but is substituting for her roommate.

Their encounter quickly turns steamy until lies threaten to destroy their passionate affair.

My Review

Daniel has just broken up with his cheating girlfriend and sacked his attorney just before he was due to fly out to San Francisco to buy out a company in one of the biggest deals of his company. He has to attend a dinner and he knows that without Audrey – the cheating ex, he will be hounded by gold-diggers, so in turn, he makes his friend Tim hire an escort for the evening to ward off all the unwelcome women. But when faced with Sabrina, the ‘escort’ his mesmerized by her and all his plans change throughout the night.

Holly is an escort, and as she’s on the verge of being sacked, it’s unfortunate for her to fall sick at a time where she’s needed for a job. She talks her best friend and roommate Sabrina into pretending to be her for the night. Sabrina reluctantly agrees to play ‘Holly’ for the night, as she will never see the guy again anyway and she hasn’t been on a date or had sex for 3 years, after an embarrassing stint with a guy and Youtube.

Daniel was a strong character. He wasn’t even that fazed when he caught his girlfriend cheating as he is a total workaholic, having not taken even a day off for years. He chose work over sex every time and knew Audrey wasn’t the right girl for him; she just wanted to hang off his arm and be in the papers.  In the book he said ‘maybe the right girl just isn’t born yet?” or maybe he just hadn’t found the right one yet?

Sabrina is a successful attorney and is being harassed by her boss. As much as she wants to report him, she knows it will end up with her being sacked and not him, so she keeps her mouth shut, even though it’s getting worse. As someone who is afraid to get close and trust a man, it took a lot of convincing for her to pretend to be Holly for the night, but by god, she decided right.

Just the meeting you know that they had the chemistry and even though Daniel thought she was an escort, he wanted her regardless and would do anything to keep her. The affair turns into love in about two days, but it was totally believable because they were so in sync and attracted to each other, every little touch sparked fire inside them and you knew they were made for each other.

But as books go and the characters fall for each other, things go wrong and it’s up to Daniel to try and make things better. The things he did were so sweet and that massage, seriously? He can give me one anytime because that was sexual tension on a biiiiig plate!

The big surprise between Tim and Holly had me gasping because I was not expecting that at all. And although they tried to do well, I could see why Sabina was extremely upset with Holly by it. But all good that ends well. Was a nice, little, sexed-filled and story-filled book.
