I don’t want to stop writing….

Matt’s book!

So the past couple of days, I’ve been so inspired. Matt and Mallory  – Yupp, I’ve decided to let you know my heroines name – have been speaking to me. Like constantly. And all this week I haven’t stopped with their story.

Last week I lost my job, but thankfully, I went to an interview on Tuesday the boss quite literally offered me the job there and then, so I start on Monday. Which is why I am cramming in as much writing as I can at the moment. It’s an exciting new opportunity, with more money in which i can start saving again for a house, less working hours (Mon – Thurs: 9 – 5pm and Fridays – 9 – 4pm) and an opportunity to grow and be trained up with the company.

But anyway…

I finished my job last Thursday and haven’t gone a day where I haven’t written Matt’s book, even if its been a few hundred words a day. I’m currently at 8,000 words right now. I have their story in my head but at the end of the day, it’s their story to tell, so we shall see what they say.

I’m hoping book two will be darker, deeper and more emotional than The Deal was, mainly due to the issues in this book which you will find out on the first page. That is, unless when it goes to Betas and they tell me to keep it quiet until a few chapters in. But other than that, all the gang will be in book two, they may not have great big parts but they will grace you with their presence somewhere along the lines.

For now though, I’ll leave you with who I picture Matt and Mallory if you haven’t seen my inspiration on my Facebook page yet!

So please welcome Lucas Gil and Hayley Williams!

EXCERPT:

I slide a glance at Finn. His hands are deep in his pockets, and a blank expression has settled over his face. “I thought you said your name wouldn’t open doors here.” I say, a little bitchy.

He shrugs slightly. “It didn’t.”

No. It didn’t—his past did. How much does that bother him? From the tight grip he’s got on himself and his emotions, more than I know.

“What can I do for you?” Ansliey says, picking up on the tension and changing the subject.

“First aid kit?”

Ansliey grabs it from the kitchen and Finn tugs me to the table, sitting me down with my head tilted back as he inspects the wound on my neck. I keep my eyes trained on the ceiling as his fingers move with practiced precision over my wound. When he rubs it roughly with an alcohol swab, I hiss and look at him.

His face is blank as he works, but his eyes—his eyes are hot and furious. I shiver, and he meets my gaze, all of that emotion there for me to see.

And then it’s gone, shut carefully away and he finishes cleaning my neck. I keep my gaze averted, and when he tapes the last gauze on and steps away, I mutter a quick thanks and straighten, moving away from him.

His gaze follows me and seems to mock me. I ignore him, and focus on Ansliey, who is watching us with a bemused look.

“What can you tell us of recent Haven arrivals?” Finn says abruptly.

“Three arrived a few days back. In pretty bad shape—we’ve been seeing a lot of refugees recently, more than we have in the past decade. I don’t know where they came from—the Priest met with the Aldermen before they left again.”

Finn frowns, “They were with a Priest? Of the Order?”

Ansliey nods, “Arrived together. The Priest and a sick one, in a truck. The other was on a bike.”

My heart drops. Why the hell is Collin keeping company with a priest? What about that makes any sense at all?

 Excerpt

It’s taking me longer than usual to get ready.  Davis is already showered, dressed and out of the bedroom.  I’m moving a bit slowly.  Dragging my feet on purpose?  Still a bit pouty?  I just don’t feel quite right, but decide to pull it together and get going.

I have a great little dress for the party that PJ picked out for me from costume storage.  It’s a red flapper dress, but instead of the usual fringe, it has strips of fabric with jet beading.  It swishes and sparkles.  I also have amazing “underpinnings” as PJ called them.  Red bra and panties with black polka dots and satin trim.  Roll top stockings, too.  Very authentic.  I want to be fun and sexy from the inside out.  I’m feeling pretty good about the outfit.  I’ve spent a long time on my makeup.  Did my research online. Bright red structured lips with a perfect bow and smoky eyes.  The only other time I wear this much make up is on stage.  The final touch is a black bob wig.  Chin length.  Smooth, shiny and sassy.  When I put it on I hardly recognize myself.  I wonder what Davis will think.  As I finish up, I hear the doorbell ring.  That will probably be Smitty.

***

Entering the living room through the French doors of Davis’ bedroom I see there is a pre-party party occurring.  Smitty is being introduced to Kathleen.  Davis has pulled a bottle of champagne out of a bucket of ice and is just pouring the first glass.  He looks up as I come through the doors and has to quickly pull the bottle back, as he was pouring and not looking and almost overfilling the glass.

“Oops, shit,” he says, shaking some champagne off his hand and then wiping it on the towel around the bottle.  “Lizard? God, you look so different.  I mean, Good … Great, like you, but different.  And Jesus, HOT.  Smokin’ hot.”  He is effusive with his praise of my look, while at the same time not believing that it’s really me.  “Smitty, Kath … doesn’t Biz look … Oh my god, HOT.”

I tease him because I’ve never seen him act this way before and I am getting a big kick out of it. “You said that already.”

“It bears repeating.  HOT.”  He is finally making his way over to me with a glass of champagne.  Attired in a tuxedo with his hair slicked back like a 20s gangster, I could say the same about him. HOT.  When he gets right in front of me, he doesn’t touch me, just puts his forehead on mine and breathes out, “I am totally going to get to fuck a hot flapper tonight.  The wait is going to be excruciating” – and then he bites his lip.  Barely touching me and he is arousing all my senses.  Jesus, now my little polka dotted panties are in flames.  And we still have a party to go to.

But that one choice, altered the course of his life forever.

My review of RUIN

5 out of 5 stars

—————————————————————————————

My Review

When I read RUIN, I knew that Gabe would steal my heart, so TOXIC was not going to be left for months on time, hell no. It was going to be read the second I finished RUIN. I definitely gobbled this book down and it caused me numerous tears, heartache, different theories (one which I actually got right!) but I also got my laughs, my smiles, the banter and the amazing friendship from Kiersten, Weston, Gabe and Lisa too. God I love these characters.

Toxic is much more deeper (if it can be because Ruin ruined me) than Ruin. From the synopsis, we know that Gabe is hiding his identity, so in a way we know that probably isn’t his name. So what is? What is he hiding? Throughout the book, until it is revealed, you are sat trying to work out who Gabe is, what his secret is, why he is hiding. I unlocked one name, one secret and when that was revealed, it still came as a surprise because I hardly ever guess right.

Gabe, as we know, is the happy guy. The guy who sleeps around because he doesn’t drink anymore. The guy who can banter like hell, can be a sarcastic idiot but the guy who is protective of his friends, who will do anything to make sure they are okay, and would die for them – much like he told Wes in Ruin, but underneath he is broken, and depressed and feeling guilty for his past.

It’s hard not fall for Gabe (maybe more than Wes) because you feel for him, you go through the motions with him and dear god, his life is just one torment after the other. You have Gabe with the secret, Gabe with different identities, Gabe with his friends and Gabe with Saylor. But who is he truly?

You watch conflictions, you watch love and hurt and pain and it all rolls into one massive fuckball when the identity comes to life. You get frustrated with him but in the back of you mind you know why he is doing it and you understand it so much throughout the book. But despite the lies and secrets, Gabe is completely loyal to his friends and your heart will break for him but then be put back together in the form of Saylor and the gang.

Enter Saylor. She comes flying, literally, into Gabe’s life when his past is lying on his shoulders, when his past is moments away from unravelling. They don’t get off to the best of starts, but they seem to be integrating into each others lives more and its hard to keep their feelings from each other. I definitely thought Saylor was going to be weak, that she wouldn’t stand up to Gabe and his mean words in the beginning but I was wrong. She did and I love that about a heroine who doesnt shy away from biting back.

The more time Gabe and Saylor spend together, the more feelings are transpiring. They connect firstly through music and that is the one constant between them. The one constant that could express what they were both feeling, especially Gabe with his guilt and sorrow. Saylor was strong, she was there for Gabe when shit went down and she was completely selfless – which I admired from her. Not many people could do what she did, not many people would stay but she did and she helped him with everything, with the pain and the guilt, especially through the goodbyes.

She taught him to love again, to be okay with being your true self after so many years and to accept yourself for who you are. She really is inspirational.

Toxic is raw, its tear worthy, its heartbreaking but it also comes with pages full of love. Love for Gabe, love for Saylor, love for the gang and the little secret hiding. Rachel draws you completely in with her writing, you feel everything, you connect on a personal level and you just have to keep turning pages; turning pages to find out more about Gabe, about his secrets. Such a beautiful and emotional book and you all should get reading this series ASAP.

Delve into the lives of such amazing characters and get your heart broken and then fixed up once again. Rachel, I cannot wait to meet you at the Edinburgh signing. Be aware of The Book Lovers 😉

My Review

If you loved Tears of Tess, then shitting hell, you are going to fall head over hells for Quintessentially Q. I was hooked to Tears of Tess but I LOVE this book a hell of a lot.

I actually had to think long and hard about this review, because its so hard to put into words just how amazing this book is. And Jesus, its still hard to formulate the words to express it. But I’ll give it a go.

I have to say, despite the disturbing and violent nature of this book, it’s my favourite out of the series so far. I felt so many emotions throughout this book and I actually cried for about 50+ pages. I cried for Tess, I cried for Q but I also cried because of the heartbreak and the scenarios both of them were going through – alone. I cried for how Tess was being treated, how afraid and angry and monstrous Q was. Dear god, the tears just kept coming, the emotions, from sickness, to my stomach muscle tightening, to the heartache and the light relief of this couple finally being reunited again….

But then my emotions didn’t stop there. It was a constant roller-coaster with this book and when Tess was broken, was empty, I cried for her feeling nothing. Her kidnappers broke her so much that she was seemingly unfixable and as much as she tried to get ‘unbroken’, she just couldnt see past anything. I prayed that she could get past it,that she could push past it and i felt broken reading about her being broken, about her being at that point where she didnt care, she didnt feel, she was just so numb and it killed me to watch this strong women like this. But all bad things turn good eventually….

I cried for Q who you know has deep feelings for Tess, who would maim and kill and do anything to get her back to the strong Tess he knows. I cried for him trying to get her back to her old self, how much time and effort and love he put into trying to get her to talk but it was useless. I saw his fear, how exhausted he was, how he tried and tried to get Tess back…i saw him be defeated and that killed me. No joke, you feel every single emotion these two go through and I cannot tell you how this book broke me and then fixed me back together again.

I cant tell you how much I wanted to see a different side to Q and Pepper sure as hell let us! We see the softer side of him come out, the side where we know he loves Tess, how she is actually the one for him, his monster, like he is hers. Although he doesnt know what he is doing and his feelings are confusing the hell out of him, he wants to make sure Tess is happy with with and yes, he is still the dominant alpha we all loved, I loved this whole different side to him.

I loved how it was dual POV. I loved getting inside Q’s head, how conflicted he was over his feelings, over how he should act – did he love her? How was he going to get her back? We saw plenty of sides to him and each broke me a little. From the slight touching moments he gave Tess, to his monster side, his dominant side and his tired side. His POV also gave me hope that maybe Q could love, that he had found his one, albeit in a trafficking way, but it was a bit like fate and then to lose her was terrifying and you knew that he had to track her down, do whatever he could to get her back. He would die without her.

I cant explain how much I loved Q. How I draw in his emotions, how he was feeling, every little piece of his emotions pierced my heart, both in a happy and devastating way. I cant tell you how happy I was at the end. Throughout all the pain he endures, to see him have Tess back in his arms, back to her strong self, especially the things he tells her (SWOON), I, for one, cannot wait to see this relationship expand and grow in book three.

Pepper, you have turned me over the the dark side and i am loving it!!!

Synopsis

In the follow-up to Lisa Desrochers’ explosive New Adult novel A Little too Far, Alessandro Moretti must face the life he escaped and the girl he loved and left behind.

Twenty-two year old Hilary McIntyre would like nothing more than to forget her past. As a teenager abandoned to the system, she faced some pretty dark times. But now that’s all behind her. Hilary has her life on track, and there’s no way she’ll head back down that road again.

Until Alessandro Moretti—the one person who can make her remember—shows up on her doorstep. He’s even more devastatingly gorgeous than before, and he’s much too close for comfort. Worse, he sees right through the walls she’s built over these last eight years, right into her heart and the secrets she’s guarding.

As Hilary finds herself falling back into love with the man who, as a boy both saved and destroyed her, she must decide. Past or future? Truth or lies?

—————————————————————

TEASER!

I hold my breath and wait for him to let me go. Finally, he takes a shuddering breath and steps back, clearing his throat. I watch as he reaches over the back of the couch and comes out with a throw pillow. He stands in front of me with it bunched in his hands. “Again.”

I get myself balanced and snap a punch into the center of the pillow.

“Now with the left. Same thing.”

I try with my left and it feels slower and clumsier. “Guess I’ll have to hope he doesn’t grab me by the right arm, huh?”

“You’re right-handed, so using the left will take some practice, but it’s the same thing. Solid base, tight core, and snap.”

I try again with my left and it feels a little less awkward.

“Now stagger your stance,” he says, stepping closer and drawing my left foot forward with a scorching hand on my thigh, just below the hip. I fight to keep my breathing even. “As you snap, stay over your base of support, but step quickly from your back foot to your front foot.” His fingertips stroke up my leg as he releases me, causing my breath to catch. He holds the pillow again. “That will put some momentum behind the punch.”

I snap my right arm out, shifting onto my left leg as I do it, and my fist makes a solid-sounding thud into the pillow and pushes Alessandro back a half step.

He tips his head at me and his eyes flare. “You’re a natural. I want you in my ring.”

At the image of Alessandro, sweaty in a boxing ring, my heart skips. “Better be careful what you wish for.”

There’s something sexily cynical in his smile as he holds the pillow up. “Again.”

After half an hour, I finally feel like I have it to where I might actually do some damage to something other than my fist if it was to connect with someone.

“You’re a quick learner,” he tells me, handing me the throw pillow. He gestures to the couch. “Relax. I’ll start dinner.”

I toss the pillow on the couch and follow him to the kitchen, where he ducks into the fridge and comes out with two boneless chicken breasts. He pulls down a cutting board from where two are stacked on end against the fridge and proceeds to pound the crap out of the chicken with a mallet.

“There has to be something I can do to help.”

He opens the fridge again and comes out with a bundle of asparagus, which he sets on the counter. “If you insist, you can wash and trim these.”

I wash the asparagus and snap off the ends, then stack it and the two cockroaches on a plate next to the stove as Alessandro drops a cube of butter in a cast-iron skillet, where it sizzles. He rubs salt and pepper into the chicken, then flours it.

“Anything else I can do?” I ask as he drops the chicken breasts into the skillet and browns them.

“Sit and drink your wine,” he says with a wave of his arm at the couch.

I go into the main room, taking my wine with me, and sink into the sofa. I take a long sip. “Are you trying to get me drunk?”

He turns and flashes me that smile again. “Are you questioning my motives?”

“Maybe.” My heart is pounding. Why am I flirting?

I’m sipping my wine a few minutes later when he picks up the plate of asparagus and starts dumping the spears into the skillet. He stops and smiles over his shoulder at me as he picks out the cockroaches. “Touché.”

I smile sweetly back at him.

He turns to the stove and I sip my wine again, but whatever he just poured in the pot smells good, drawing me off the couch and back into the kitchen. “What are you making? I ask, looking into the skillet.

“It’s a traditional Italian chicken dish.”

“What’s in there?”

“So far, just chicken, artichoke hearts, asparagus, cream, chicken broth, and wine.” He picks a jar off the rack over the stove and when he shakes it into the pot, I smell oregano.

He moves around the kitchen like a pro as he prepares the pasta and spoons the sauce over it.

“Is wine okay for dinner, or would you like something else?” he asks as he takes our plates to the small table near the window on the kitchen side of the room.

“Wine is good, but I need a refill,” I say, holding up my empty glass.

He grabs my glass as he sweeps past on his way back to the kitchen. “Have a seat. I’ll be right there.”

I slide into one of the chairs at the table and pick up my fork. I know enough about manners not to start before Alessandro’s back, but that doesn’t keep me from dipping the tines of my fork in the sauce and tasting it.

“Holy Christ, that’s good.”

Alessandro picks up our glasses and moves back to the table. “I’m glad you approve.” He lowers himself into the seat across from me and nods at my plate, indicating I should go ahead. He doesn’t have to tell me twice.

I cut off a hunk of chicken and cram it in my mouth. “Oh, God,” I moan. “Who taught you to do this?”

“My grandmother.”

“Well, the woman deserves a medal.”

I dig back into my food, but just as I cut through a stalk of asparagus, an antenna flips out of my sauce. “Shit!” I scream, dropping my fork with a clank.

But then I hear Alessandro chuckling. He’s staring at me out from under his long, dark lashes, and in that look, I see the boy he was so long ago.

“You son of a bitch!” I say, but I’m laughing. How did I not see this coming? “I warned you.”

I grab the bug out of my sauce and charge at him, but he leaps out of his chair, laughing. “You warned me about cockroaches in your tea. I didn’t put the cockroach in your tea.”

“Close enough.”

He moves around to the front of the couch, but what he doesn’t expect is the direct, take-no-prisoners attack. I leap over the back of the couch and take him down, tackling him onto the throw pillows at the end and cramming the bug in his face.

And then I realize where I am: lying on top of Alessandro on a couch.

We’re leaving, Hilary.

Everything stops. Me. Him. Time.

I’m plunged backward in time to the rec room. Creed sang “My Sacrifice” from the radio and it was just us, which meant I could do this. I could touch him. He was on the couch in his T-shirt and jeans, and I was on top of him. He was kissing me, but he stopped.

“We’re leaving, Hilary.”

I shake the memory away, my heart beating in my throat.

Please. Don’t.

I climb off him and just stand here for a second, not sure if I should go.

Alessandro pulls himself up and looks at me a moment with wide eyes. His whole body is tense, his shoulders stiff and his hands bunched into fists at his sides.

I smooth my hair back. “I—sorry. I should go.”

He rubs his forehead, then looks at me. “You haven’t eaten yet. Come back to the table.”

We stand here staring at each other for another tense minute, then settle back into our seats.

“I’m sorry,” he says as he fishes the other cockroach out of his food. “It was stupid of me.”

But seeing him sitting there, sucking sauce off a rubber cockroach, is more than I can take. I crack up.

He smiles, unsure, but so soft and so beautiful. “We’re okay?”

“We’re okay.” As I say it, I realize I want it to be true. I want to spend time with him—get to know him again. I want to know what happened to him after he left New York. I need to know how he felt back then—and even now.

I need these things for my sanity. It’s just closure.

I’m not totally playing with fire.

My Review

When you figure out love is all that matters after all, it sure makes everything else, seem so small.” So Small – Carrie Underwood

We all know what went down in The Perfect Game, the heartache we endured, the shouting at our Kindle at Jack Fucking Carter and then he (kind of) mended it at the end, proving just how much he loves Cassie, how he needs to to forgive him and how he can’t imagine his life without her in it.

The Game Changer has new challenges, about dealing with the pressure of being in the public eye, especially for Cassie. It’s about whether she can deal with everything that comes with it, whether its enough to just be with Jack….it makes her evaluate her life and you know you will be hooked, needing to know this story, needing more of these two in your life and before you know it, you’re at the end, grinning like a buffoon.

Books about fame and dealing with the pressure of being in the limelight are ones that I enjoy…although they do give me a hernia! And The Game Changer was no different. The pressure is on Cassie and Jack right from the start. The pressure about their life together, the made-up stories, the lies, photographs that don’t paint the full picture, the bitchiness online, everything boils down to the pressure of the media world and although they don’t want it to affect their relationship, its bloody hard for it not to.

I felt for Cassie so badly. She took the brunt of everything really – harsh words from the fans, the baseball wives being bitches, the ‘fans’ online spouting shit and of course, the magazines posting lies. It’s enough to make anyone feel even more insecure about themselves, about their relationship, about even stepping foot outside. More so its uncomfortable knowing that you have eyes watching you everywhere. Cassie couldn’t even pop out to get some food without people posting where she was. Her job was so important to her and in a way, held the only normality she had in this new world of fame. It kept her grounded, it kept her busy and you can see just how much photography means to her. It’s her life, and like Jack’s she wouldn’t know what to do without it.

I admired Cassie throughout this book. Despite all the set backs, the harsh words and of course, the one MAJOR shitfest that went down, she was as strong as she could be. Dealing with the shit thrown at her, of course she faltered but she stood her ground, trying not to let anyone see her vulnerable side, especially Jack but he knows exactly when something is wrong with her. I hated seeing her crack, her down but you know what, she turns it around. It’s like something switches in her and she knows that no one will ever match up to Jack, she doesnt want them too and she learns to deal with all the bullshit, if only to have Jack in the end….and that’s what she got.

I enjoy watching Jack redeem himself throughout this book. He actually puts his heart and soul into gaining Cassie’s trust, to being a better man for her, to proving to her every day she is the one, the one who stole his heart and the one person he wants forever. And now he has her again, he’s never letting her go.

I loved hearing the stories about the six months without Cassie, how he was battling the bitch, how he wanted to fight for Cassie when all that drama was over and not drag her into it anymore. He wanted a fresh slate to be with her, to win her back and not having the baggage, I actually commend him for that. Despite feeling like shit and loving the crap out of Cassie, if I was her and he turned up still with the baggage, I’d tell him to get rid of it then come back.

He’s where he wants to be now, with Cassie, and you damn well know that he will try to protect her from everything, starting with the fans at the games. You can see how much he’s stressing and afraid of everything Cassie is going through, but you know that he cant focus on worrying as it will effect his game. As long as shes safe and comes to him after every game, he is okay.

Of course, Cassie and Jack have their struggles, as every couple do but they also find their way back to each other, their love overpowering and it makes them stronger. Yes the fame is the major change in their relationship, but once they actually talk everything out, you know that love is all that matters. Its the one constant that will prevail and that is definitely what you can see between these two. To go through everything and still feel so strongly, you know they will go the whole way.

The Perfect Game and The Game Changer certainly make you go through the motions but I love watching Cassie and Jack’s relationship, like knowing that despite the major shit that Jack did, that he still has Cassie’s love and her heart and that together, they can go through anything that is thrown their way, and they bleeding well have!!

Now its to read the last book of their journey – The Sweetest Game!

My Review of The Edge of Never

My Review

For those of you who know me, The Edge of Never is my favourite book ever. Give me a book about roadtrips, finding yourself and finding love and I am so there, but the thing that I loved the most was that I related to Camryn, and when that happen to me, when I can see myself in a character, I am won over. So when I found out that J.A Redmerski was writing the sequel, I was pretty much ecstatic. Although the ending of TEON was pretty much perfect and it could have just been a standalone, I was happy to follow more of Andrew and Camryn’s story, and see how they were getting on in life.

Those of us who have read TEON know what went down and how much we all sobbed and how our bins were filled with tissues, but we also know where it ends. The Edge of Always continues where The Edge of Never ends. Andrew and Camryn are head over heels for one another, they have shared and gone through a lot in the 5 months they have known and been together but you can see that they really are whole together – the missing piece to each others puzzles.

Camryn and Andrew go through a heartbreak a few chapters in and you really feel for them. Camryn withdraws herself, tells herself and everyone else she is fine, for them to stop fussing, that she doesnt want to talk about the loss and you can see just how much she is hurting, yet she puts up a front. At 20, she has lost so many people in her life, she is scared Andrew is going to be another, so she withdraws so if it does happen, it be potentially not hurt as much…but of course, it will shatter her world and thats all she can think about now.

Andrew is hurting too, but hes hurting for the loss and for Camryn. He loves her so much and its killing him that shes not opening up to him, so he is at a loss over what to do. He isnt the Andrew we know and love and that hurts to read too. He is pussyfooting around Camryn, but really, you can see why. He’s scared that she’s not herself and he wants to take the pain away, so he thinks of the one thing that they both experienced together….their road trip.

Andrew, bless his little heart, spends a week planning out their roadtrip, hoping it will heal Camryns heart and heal her past. With the help of Natalie, despite not being her greatest fan, he learns things about Camryn’s past and he wants to help her through it. His love is stronger than ever, he wants to let her grief for everyone in her life whom she has lost one way or another and she is petrified that she is going to lose Andrew too. He wants to make her see that she will never lose him, ever.

The roadtrip brings them together again, they visit old friends, old cities and discover new things too. We see the overpowering love the both of them have for each other – Andrew helps Camryn grieve, he gets her back to her old self, and really, the road is where they are meant to be. And it makes them realize that they can do anything and be anyone with each other, that they have their whole lives ahead of them and there is this whole world out there waiting to be discovered by them.

We watch Andrew and Camryn grow up, we see them settle down, and seek happiness for what they have together. What started as a roadtrip, ends as one too, and although I liked this book, The Edge of Never and Camryn (and Andrew) will always hold a special place in my heart and I hope one day that I will be as brave as both of these.

The perfect way to end the series. I loved seeing just how happy Cam and Andrew were.
