Book tattoos?

imagesWhen I was 18 me and my friend decided we wanted to get a tattoo. We had just finished out A- level’s and were a week from our first girls holiday. The tattoo idea was mentioned a week before we went to get it.

They cost us £20.

She got a star (original :P) on her hip and I got a bow on the back of my neck. Yes, it killed, and yes, i nearly fainted.

My tattoo
My tattoo

When asked why I got a bow, my response? It reminds me of my girly side. When i was growing up I was the ultimate tomboy. Playing with all the boys in my street, climbing trees etc and even though my friends tel me i am definitely a girly girl now, it still symbolizes the girl inside me. Sounds stupid i know, but that’s my response.

People always say that you get the itch to get more once you have one, and the is definitely true.

I have many thoughts about my next tattoo. I want ‘LIFE’ tattooed on my wrist because that is what ‘Zoe’ means.

But now I want something to do with books as well.

I’ve thought whether I’d have a quote tattooed one me…but which one?
Or would I get an open book tattooed one me
Or a book cover? (probably not)
Or something symbolic from that book?

The list is endless.

My love of books will never dwindle. Whomever i end up with will have to deal with my kindle being my baby. Me being an emotional wreck when reading and my love of book boyfriends.

But i ask you this, do any of you have a book tattoo? Or would you consider getting a book tattoo?

Let me know 🙂

EReader Vs. Paperback.

I pose this question, EReader or Paperback?

I know its a simple question but I’m intrigued as to how many people prefer their EReader, or how many people still enjoy their paperbacks?

I used to spend so much money on Paperbacks. All my money went on them and when I used to go to supermarkets and see ‘3 books for £7’ and other book offers, well, i would spend at least half an hour going through every book and reading the synopsis until i picked the right three and even then the following week i would pick up the next three that i didn’t buy the week before.

But then when I received a Kindle for Christmas a few years ago, it was like the most amazing present ever. I could now download books at the click of a button, have them all in one place, spend less on them as Ebooks are considerably cheaper which in turn meant i could buy more and of course, meant i could buy so many at one time and buy at least like 20 ebooks for £10 instead of 3 paperbacks.

My kindle is my baby. I don’t go anywhere without it, and if i have to leave it behind, I have the Kindle App on my phone.

I hardly ever buy paperback books anymore. The only reason I do is if I fell completely and hopelessly in love with the Ebook so much so that i need it in paperback form.

The last paperback I bought was Walking Disaster – Jamie McGuire so it was with its companion Beautiful Disaster. The next paperback books I hope to buy are Hopeless – Colleen Hoover and The Edge Of Never – J.A Redmerski when they come out in the UK.

I also have On Dublin Street and Down London Road – Samantha Young and Down To You and Up To Me – M. Leighton.

I ADORE these books and so i had to have them in paperback form, but that’s it.

My nan also buys me books for Christmas and that’s the only other time i receive paperbacks.

My Kindle is a godsend. It’s given me new authors and books to love and new friends because of these authors. Indie authors dominate the kindle world and i am so freaking glad because they are the best. Hands down the best.

So now i pose the questions again – Ebooks or Paperback?

The Liebster Blogging Award

lieber-award

Thank you very much to Paper Cuts Reviews  for nominating me for the Liebster Award. It is an award passed on by bloggers to new blogs worth reading (blogs with less than 200 followers). It’s very exciting to be nominated, and in turn to nominate  others!

Recipients of the Liebster Award must:

  1. LIST 11 RANDOM FACTS ABOUT YOU.
  2. ANSWER THE QUESTIONS THAT WERE ASKED OF YOU (BY THE BLOGGER THAT NOMINATED YOU).
  3. NOMINATE 11 OTHER BLOGS FOR THE LIEBSTER BLOG AWARD AND LINK TO THEIR BLOGS.
  4. NOTIFY THE BLOGGERS OF THEIR AWARD.
  5. ASK THE AWARD WINNERS 11 QUESTIONS TO ANSWER ONCE THEY ACCEPT THE AWARD.

My 11 facts:

  1. I have waaayyy too much canvas’s in my bedroom.
  2. I’m now a PR Comms Assistant. I’ve left retail behind 😀
  3. I cry at every single book I read. Yes, I am an emotional wreck
  4. I can’t drive. All my friends ship me around.
  5. Green is my favourite colour. Like I will EAT green sweets, buy green things, etc because they are green.
  6. I’m a hopeless romantic.
  7. Don’t speak to me before 12pm. I am not a morning person at all and you will get a glare and a grunt if you speak to me. (It annoys my dad so much)
  8. My Kindle is literally my baby.
  9. I’m addicted to Strawberry Splits.
  10. I am obsessed with hot, tattooed guys. Know any? Send them my way
  11. I am an earring hoarder.

Okay, that’s my 11, very boring facts about myself.

Now onto the questions asked by Paper Cuts Reviews

  1. Who is your idol?
This is really hard because I don’t really idolize anyone, well maybe my mum. She’s one of my best friends.
  2. Who is your favorite author and why?
I love waaay too many authors, but as I’ve mentioned in a post a few weeks ago, I LOVE Sophie Kinsella. She was one of the first authors that I read in my teens and I have read every book of hers (apart from The Wedding Night – i have yet to read that)

  3. What is your earliest childhood memory?
Hmmm, I was at Butlins with all my family (Grandparents, aunt, uncle, cousins, mum, brother) and going on the cable car with my dad. We went over the top of my family and i was shouting and waving at them. Ohh how to be 3/4 years old again.

  4. Favorite band/artist?
Okay so there are waay too many too! But McFly and Paramore. I’ve followed both bands from the very start.

  5. If you had to eat one food for the rest of your life what would it be?
Holy smokes…umm probably pepperoni pizza and garlic and herb dip. Obsession.

  6. You’re deserted on an island somewhere and have 3 celebrities with you, who are they?
AHH Umm. okay, let me think about this. It’s really hard. Well, I’d need another girl with me, so Hayley Williams (Can teach me to sing like her). And the boys would be Greg James (He can bring along his DJ stuff) and Channing Tatum (He can do the chair dance from Magic Mike that Karli so very told me about last night ;)). 2 Americans and Two Brits. Sorted.

  7. Last person you spoke to?
In RL or online? RL was last night, my mother and brother. Online would be my honeybee, Karli.

  8. What made you start your blog?
I’ve loved books from a young age and my love has only gotten stronger. Over the summer i read so many books and decided to make a review blog. I’m so glad I did though, becase i have made some awesome friends and have some pretty avid followers too 🙂

  9. Favorite tv programme?
This changes all the time but atm its The Mindy Project.

  10. Your favorite quote?
“If you don’t look, it will come to you.” – Probs not the right quote, but whatever.

  11. Best advice ever given?
“Your time will come”….And it definitely has :). I dont really have advice given, I’m normally the one dishing it out.

Okay, now my questions for you lovely lot:

  1. What made you start reading?
  2. Favourite film?
  3. Ebooks or Paperback?
  4. Favourite website/Blog?
  5. If you could elsewhere, where would you go?
  6. Top three book boyfriends?
  7. Coke or Pepsi?
  8. Top three books you;d take if stranded on a desert island?
  9. If you were to write a book, what would it be about?
  10. What are your plans for today?
  11. Sweet or Savory?

Now for the blogs I nominate:

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Looking for a co-blogger.

For those of you who follow me on Twitter, you will see that on Friday I got a new job. A new full time job.

Since I started this blog back in October last year, it’s only been me running this blog. But that was because I had the time to read a book nearly every day, write reviews, interact with people on here and on Twitter etc due to only working two days a week.

But in two weeks I will be starting my new job. I will be out of my house at 7am and won’t be back until around 6pm. That’s a long ass day, which includes traveling to my work which will be 40 mins there and back. So really, I will have to schedule posts every weekend, make sure there is something for every day because that will really be the only time I will get.

This blog is like my baby.
I have nourished it, its grown over the months and I do have some awesome avid followers which i absolutely love you all for!
Never once did i think my blog would amount to anything – the truth now – because there are so many amazing book blogs out there, but I’m so happy that you all subscribe/follow me and my posts, it makes me super happy.

This post so far is like I’m leaving this blog, but thank god you can see the title haha, because no way in hell am i leaving this blog. As I’ve said its my baby and because of it I’ve met some awesome people who I can call my friends!

No, what I want to do is search for a CO-BLOGGER. Someone to help me out during the week and maybe someone who can perhaps tweet during the day (I’m not sure whether i can yet..but the company seem pretty relaxed so I’ll have to see) /add content on here, build it up even more than I have.

The Book Lovers is my brand. It;s what I’m known for online and in real life – yes, by my friends. My old lecturer always told us to make a brand, and this is mine. I WANT to be known as The Book Lovers. I want my name out there and i WANT someone who is passionate enough to join my brand and help me along with it.

I don’t want just anyone. I don’t want anyone who will ruin what i have spent months building up (sorry). I don’t want anyone who will give half a rats ass on this blog and forget about it after a matter of weeks so i’m back to square one.

What I do want is someone who knows how to manage a WordPress blog. I do want someone who loves books. I do want someone who can write reviews and has posted some somewhere.

(If you don’t write reviews and they haven’t been posted on a site then please don’t get in contact.)

I NEED a co-blogger who has experience.

If you’re interested, please send me an email at zoe_pope@hotmail.co.uk with samples of your reviews, why you would like to be a co-blogger of The Book Lovers and links to your site/a site where your reviews have been posted.

I know this may seem a bit obsessive but this blog really is everything. It’s been like a full time job and i don’t want it run to the ground after all the hard work i have put in. If you want this blog to be your baby too, then please contact me.

Sex: Fictional Men Vs. Real-life men.

11676_526516370734175_972622643_n

Answer me this one question.

Do real life men live up to the expectations we know of fictional characters?

As a singleton, with many, many fictional ‘boyfriends’, one of my friends recently told me that men aren’t going to live up to the expectations that fictional characters portray. He was on about sex in books.

Ive read a hell of a lot of book which include sex. All different kinds of sex. Sex I’d like to do. Sex I’ve done and sex that no way in hell would i ever do. But isn’t that all part of the fun of reading? You can delve into another world, think it’s us that is being ravished by the male character and then back in the real world, ask our partner to try that position or whatever it is you liked from that sex scene(s).

Has anyone done that? (I need to find a man first)

Now to me, i KNOW real men aren’t going to be the sexual beasts I read about. (Okay some might, but I certainly haven’t been introduced to them!) And I really don’t have high expectations of real-life men to give me the greatest pleasure known to mankind like fictional characters seem to give one another, and you know what? I’m okay with that…to some extent.

But what about you lot?

I know I’m generalizing, but I haven’t found a guy that rocked my world in bed, and fictional characters all seem to have amazing sex. I don’t expect real-life men to live up to the expectations of fictional characters, because, well, they are fictional, but deep down, a tiny bit of me just wants to be alpha-male-lized (i know, not a word, i made it up) by a dominant, hot, tattooed guy with a motorbike who definitely knows his way around a woman’s body but isn’t all he seems. No, hes sweet and caring but is a tough nut and will protect me at any costs.

See, too many books 😉

Guys who read books are hot.

Got to love Ryan Gosling
Got to love Ryan Gosling

So I follow this blog called ‘Thought Catalog’ on wordpress. Some articles I enjoy, others…well not so much.

But strolling down on my Facebook page (Yes, I follow them on FB too), I came across an article they linked up from their site called ‘Reading Is Sexy which is about women who love men who read.

To me, I find it highly attractive if I spot of guy on the bus, on the train (Which is basically my second home) or just anywhere where I can see a book or a kindle in their hands, them engrossed in what they are reading. Reading is something I have loved to do since I was younger, and I am still completely hooked on reading; hence why I set up this blog.

Reading is important to me and going into publishing is something I want to pursue as a career, so if my partner loves reading as much as me, then it would definitely be a match made in heaven.

I agree with this part of the article: If I find a guy who doesn’t particularly likes reading, then it’s going to be hard. I like to talk about books, I spend a lot of time curled up in bed, kindle in hand, tissues at my side, completely engrossed in my books, getting attached to the plot and characters. I feel their emotions; I cry, I laugh, I smile and I’d love to share that with my other half. (I’m single atm.)

Sure we’d read different books, but it would be great to talk to one another about our books. About the plot, the characters, what we think is going to happen. We can journey through the books together.

Guys who read books are sexy. They are hot. And I would love to find one who shares my passion among other things too.

So what about you fellow readers, are you attracted to guys who read or are you not too bothered, rather having the time alone to get read your book? Let me know.

Synopsis

Abby Sellers knows what she wants.

Enduring eighteen years in the shadow of her identical twin sister, Annika, she wants a fresh start. A chance to create her own life, separate from her conniving, deceptive twin.

Surprising both her family and friends, Abby ditches her plans for college and enrolls at a new school instead. There, she encounters West Montgomery, a sexy fellow student who immediately disarms her with his good looks and charm. West takes a liking to Abby and she suddenly finds herself walking a thin line, fabricating a fictional life created not by lies but by omission. She soon discovers West has secrets of his own, secrets that he’s not altogether interested in sharing.

Out from under the shadow of her twin, Abby’s life—and her relationship with West—blossoms. When Abby leaves town one weekend, something unthinkable happens and her relationship with West is shattered. Reeling from the discovery, Abby fears all of her plans have backfired and she’s created a mess for both of them, a mess that no one can clean up.

But West isn’t willing to let her go that easily. When he forces her to confront secrets they’ve both been hiding, Abby must decide more than if she’s willing to forgive and forget. She must also decide just what kind of life she wants…and who she wants to live it with.

Synopsis

Running away from his old life in New York City, Lincoln Bracks ends up in the small town of Statlen, Iowa. He isn’t interested in making friends or getting to know anyone. He just wants to keep his head down and disappear amongst the crowd. That was the plan anyway, until he meets Hadie Swinton.

Nursing a broken heart and the realization that the boy she’s loved her entire life isn’t Prince Charming, Hadie is set against ever falling for the same type of guy again. But when new boy, Lincoln, arrives in town, she discovers that this is easier said than done.

Hadie assumes that Lincoln is a typical arrogant jock—he is good-looking, confident and charming—but when he doesn’t do anything she expects him to, she is intrigued by him against her better judgment. There is definitely more to Lincoln then just a pretty face, but Lincoln is hiding something that he doesn’t want anybody to discover because when they do, they will never look at him the same again.

Falling in love was the last thing Lincoln wanted to do, so how will he convince himself to fall out of it?
