Danny and Liv are back…

Danny loves Liv. He knows he loves her more than she loves him because she ran without a word when she saw their future mapped out before her. He knows he will never love anyone like he loved her and this time he doesn’t think he can move on.

Liv loves Danny. She knows she loves him more than he loves her because he broke her heart in the worst possible way, right when things were falling into place. She knows she will never love anyone like she loves him and this time she doesn’t think she can move on.

They needed a second chance because they just weren’t ready for their first, but when events changed everything between them, they discovered they were just human after all. Now Liv and Danny have to find a way to survive being hurt by each other.

They doubted, they underestimated and they did believe the worst, but only because they were too young the first time and too vulnerable the second time. But now they have changed and if they are not the same, surely things can only turn out differently?

My Review

“I tried being without you, life is nothing without you.”

I need to start by saying I absolutely LOVE Kerry and I cannot wait to meet her in person on the 9th November for the London Author Event day. SERIOUSLY! I am too excited to squeeze the crap out of her, both for being a friend and for writing such beautiful books in Just and Still Human and writing such beautiful and relatable characters that will have you laughing, crying, agitated but more importantly you will fall in love with them, with the storyline, and with Kerry.

Still Human, as I’ve already told Kerry, is the PERFECT conclusion to the story of Danny and Liv – along with the secondary characters too. Still Human carries off where Just Human left off and we all know the ending to the first book! We all shouted at Liv not to leave, to find Danny and ask him about it, but I suppose I would have done the same thing if I was Liv and leave too, without any explanation.

I cannot commend Still Human enough – it has everything that you would want in a conclusion to such a heart-warming story in the first book. It has second – or in Danny and Liv’s case – third chance love, true, overpowering love for one another, the strong bond between the best friends, the selflessness between everyone, and of everything in between. You will smile, laugh, cry, swoon and get angry but you will sob at the end as it is completely perfect and your heart will just grow with love for Kerry and the series (and of course, Danny!!)

I cannot tell you how glad I am that Kerry emailed me months ago when she was looking for bloggers to review Just Human – she has definitely come a long way since then and I am so happy and glad that everyone is loving this series like I am! Kerry definitely deserves all the success she gets with Just and Still Human! So give this series a read if you have yet to jump aboard the Danny train 😉

As I’ve mentioned we start where Just Human left off – Liv is back in England, Danny is in America and they are both as stubborn as each other….both thinking the worst of the situation and neither knowing the truth, so they don’t speak to each other, they don’t even want Max or Jen to mention the other’s name. But when an accident occurs and Danny finds out the real reason as to why Liv ran, he is on the first flight back, but he keeps it a secret as he tries to win back Liv.

You know how we fell for Danny in Just Human? Holy shit, you will literally fall so much harder. You know Danny is deeply, deeply in love with Liv and will do just about anything for her…the romantic streak in him, dear god, I am thinking I need a Danny asap. You can feel his love pour through the pages for Liv, the things he does, how much effort he puts into plans to make up for everything and to cement just how much his heart his hers, how much he wants her forever…you will be swooning, crying over him and what he does and just how much his heart beats for her, how he can’t lose her again.

You know with a love this strong, that nothing is going to break them again. Sure they have to learn to trust each other again and get over their insecurities, but when they both do, its bloody clear to see they were born to be together.

Liv is still the brilliant character we met in Just Human and despite how it ended, and despite not wanting to talk or hear anything to do with Danny, she keeps her chin up and tries not to let it get to her, even though it’s killing her inside. She’s still fragile and insecure but you know deep down there is a strength and that is what she puts on, even though she is heartbroken.

You see her façade slipping and you see her start to trust Danny again, her heart beginning to heal and you know that although she’s gone through so much with Danny, her love for him and their love together is strong enough to overcome anything – no matter what happens between them. They have loved each other for so many years and there is no way they are letting each other go again, no way in hell.

The things they go through, throughout both books and to know they come out stronger, more secure, trusting and head over heels in love makes you want the same as Danny and Liv – that one person to love forever. Kerry made every character realistic, the storyline realistic and you will love her all the more for that because she doesn’t pussyfoot around. This series is just pure love!

Seriously though, if you haven’t read Just and Still Human, get over to Amazon now, 1-Click and get your fix. You won’t be disappointed at all and Kerry is definitely an author to look out for…I predict big things and this series is just the beginning!

PROLOGUE!

Liv

“Please Liv, you have to eat something,” begs Max.

I tighten the covers around me. I’m not hungry, but I keep quiet. If I speak, even about food, he’ll think I’m ready to talk. There’s nothing else to say. I poured it all out when I got home and there’s nothing left. He stayed with me all night, held me tight while I cried and now he is fussing around. He wanted to call everyone to tell them I was safe. But I warned him not to call Danny. I said he could let Mum know I was okay but that was it. No details and under no circumstances were any of them to make any contact with Danny either. I can just imagine Mum and Grace as vigilantes and, while I want him to hurt, he isn’t worth it.

“I’m going down to check on things, I’ll bring you something up anyway.” He says quietly. I don’t respond.

In the silence of my flat, my ears ring. I hate silence, I always have and without thinking I get out of bed, wrapping myself in a blanket, and sit in front of the TV. I find a film on a movie channel I’ve seen before and sit and ignore it. It’s better than the deafening silence. Now that I’m upright, I ponder what to do next. I know I have to pull myself together today, Connie is flying home. Ugh! She won’t let me just wallow, she’ll make me talk. I need to get up, shower and go to work. Keeping busy is my only option, it’ll keep people off my back.

As I adjust the temperature of the shower, I examine my options. I don’t really have any. It’s not like life was going well before I allowed Danny to walk in and screw me over. I have to just try my hardest to get back to normal as quickly as possible. I should have trusted my instincts. Danny was just human after all, hurting me was almost inevitable. Sadly, I knew that but the naive teenager in me just got sucked in for old time’s sake. I knew this would happen, I was safer with Mark, at least I could take that on the chin.

Max is waiting when I come out of the bedroom dressed for work.

“I brought you some coffee and…” He starts as he turns to me. His face falls as he sees me. “Liv, you’re not going to work?”

I walk across to where he is sitting and pick up my coffee. Taking a sip, I smile a tiny smile and sit beside him.

“What should I do then?” I ask softly.

“We have it all covered downstairs. You need to sort your head out.”

“I’m not going to do that here, trust me. I need the distraction.” I put my hand on his knee. “Thank you for looking after me, but I have to get back down there before I drive myself insane.”

He sighs. “Well, you aren’t going anywhere until you eat something.” He holds up a muffin on a plate.

I smile sweetly and dutifully take the muffin. Then, with some physical effort, I force some down. I may as well start now, Connie will be much harder to deal with.

Satisfied, Max sits back and seems to relax slightly. I can hear his cogs turning though and I know he wants to talk. So when he parts his lips to say whatever it is I know I don’t want to hear, I say “I don’t want to talk about it.” Then, getting to my feet, I take the coffee and the muffin and go to the door.

“Coming?” I ask innocently as I head down to the diner.

Danny

Jen places a coffee on my nightstand and sits on the edge of the bed. “If they know any more, they’re not saying,” she says softly.

She was just on the phone with Liv’s sister, trying to get more information. But I know all I need to know. They found the note last night when they got back; it said she was going home.

It didn’t say why, but I know.

She doesn’t love me.

She found out I was going to propose and she ran.

Again.

Last night after the dust settled, Jen found the ring bag screwed up in the trash. I’d left it out on the counter when I went to go meet Liv at the party and it doesn’t take a genius to see what happened. Liv came back just after I left, saw the bag, figured it out, freaked and then packed her things and left.

Scott and Jen left me alone last night, but only after I insisted. Jen came back first thing this morning though, to make sure I was okay. She wants me to get up and go over to Grace’s to find out what they know, but I don’t want to hear it. I can’t face their pity and I’m too angry to see Connie. This is all her fault. Liv and I were getting on with our lives quite happily until she interfered. Now I’m left with that old open wound and I have to start getting over her again. Except this time, I don’t think I can.

“Danny, come on, drink your coffee,” Jen urges. Reluctantly, I sit up and take a sip.

“Thanks,” I say distantly.

“So what are you going to do now?”

“Nothing,” I tell her.

She watches me as I drink, until I can’t take it any longer. I throw the covers off and get up.

“Are you going over there?” she asks hopefully.

I turn and see her optimistic face. “No,” I say firmly. “I have unpacking to do.”

“Danny! You can’t just give up.”

“Why not?” I scoff. “She has.”

Can they put aside their fears and give it a go? Or will deep rooted doubts and insecurities tear them apart?

My Review

Email me and tell me your book has some sort of social media involved and I will snatch that book right up. Maybe it’s the fact that I’m a millennial. I’ve grown up with the internet and phones and I don’t know a world without them. I think that’s the reason why I love books that have texting and facebook/twitter in them.

When Kerry emailed me a few months ago with Just Human, it included a love story, past best friends turned lovers whom reconnect over FaceyB. Was I going to email her back and accept? Oh hell yes I was.

When I finally got my grabby little hands on Just Human, I was so freaking happy. Kerry grabs your attention from the first page and she has characters in which you care about and want to be best buds with (and of course Danny, where you actually want to be with him.) Kerry will make you laugh, smile, giggle, swoon and also cry – both happy and sad tears (THAT ENDING KERRY!!!) but you will follow both Danny and Liv’s story – in alternative POVS – to find out that despite the years apart, love holds no time and they both loved each other so much they didn’t say anything when Danny left.  But thank god for technology hey!

From the synopsis, you can see that Danny and Liv both loved each other when they were younger, going from best friends to lovers. When Danny’s parents move back to the USA and Danny goes with them, he knows he loves Liv more than she loves him because she did nothing to stop him. He has to move on even though no one will ever hold a match to Liv.

Liv loves Danny but when he says nothing about staying, Liv knows she loves him more and so she lets him go to the USA. She has to move on even though no one will ever hold a match to Danny.

Twelve years have passed and Danny is prompted to facebook Liv. All old feelings come back and he and Liv begin to converse, falling back into old habits and talking like they haven’t spent the past twelve years apart, in silence. Their connection is back.

Can they both put aside their fears of losing each other again and give their relationship another go? Or will they be torn apart once again?

I really really liked Liv. She’s a girl after my own heart. She owns a bar, she’s proud of how far she has come, in her life and the bar, and she has tattoos. Lots of tattoos. UHHHH YES. One failed relationship after another, it seems that she should just stop and be by herself for a while. But when a facebook message comes through, and when she sees its from Danny, all these old emotions and feelings come flooding back and she can’t push them away, no matter how hard she tries.

Danny was her first for everything and now he’s got back in touch, they come flooding back. Despite being a strong character, Liv is insecure. She’s afraid of letting all these old feelings come back only to have her heart broken once again by Danny. But can she give Danny another chance?

Despite her strong exterior, shes still fragile and although she can most definitely hold her own, I loved that she pushed through her fears when she was with Danny, because he was there. He wanted her just as badly as she wanted him and to be honest, she always loved him, whether she wanted to acknowledge that fact or not. She was so happy when she was with Danny. It was like they were never apart and they just left off from where they finished twelve years ago. There was so much love for each other it was bursting.

Danny. Oh Danny. You big beauty you. Leaving Liv pained him all those years ago but he had to keep his chin up and get on with it. He loved her more than she loved him and moving killed him.

After a brief encounter with a blast from the past, he messages Liv in the hopes of her messaging back. Since this box has been reopened, he can’t stop thinking about her, about the past and hes scared she won’t reply. Bingo, she does and now they are talking like they have never been apart, like they used to, just older.

Danny is brilliant. He’s never really let himself love anyone the way he loved Liv. She has been in the back of his mind for years, unconsciously of course but now shes first and foremost in his mind. He wants to know her again, wants to see her again and most definitely wants to be with her again, which is what makes him so special in what he does.

Yes, he also has fears and insecurities but he knows for certain that Liv is the one. She always has been for him and now its just getting her to see that they are the end game.

He would do anything for Liv and the two of them together just makes your heart sing. Kerry captured their emotions and feelings down to a T. She captured their fears, their flaws, the chemistry they both still had and you just root for them as a couple. Root that they are the end game as they very well should be. They bring out the best in each other and you can see the love they have for one another, even if they are scared something will happened to break it. But you will fall in love with Danny and Liv, I can guarantee you that much.

You all know how much I love alternative povs and Kerry did a great job in writing these. She distinguished the characters amazingly, gave them their own voice and you really got to see their reunion from each other’s eyes. Their feelings and emotions and the apprehension but that is what makes this book so much more real. It isn’t all glitter and butterflies at times, its real life and real feelings and its finding that balance together and overcoming the fears together and pushing past them.

Nowwww the sex scenes. Do you really think I’d forgot about these? Do you now know me at all anymore? HAHA. YES Kerry does know exactly how to write some serious sexy scenes. Doesn’t help that I was on public transport (when am I not?) when these scenes appeared. They only intensified the chemistry and love Danny and Liv have for one another. Some hawwwwt stuff is going on.

I cannot tell you how much I LOVE Just Human. Once started, it was hard to put down and it really is a book that everyone should grab right now. Danny and Liv really did need the time apart to grow up and do their own thing and flourish before finally reconnecting. They are both at a point in their life where they are happy, and now they have each other again, that happiness has doubled.

You really need to learn all about their story. Just shout at Kerry for the ending. I did. I REALLY NEED book two now. Need to know whats going to happen because my heart can’t take it anymore. Danny and Liv have become a favourite couple of mine and they need to be yours too.
