My Review
When I found out that Jamie was writing the wedding of Abby and Travis, I was excited. We don’t really know the ins and outs behind them jetting off to Las Vegas, nor how they got married etc… so to find all this out, I was wishing for the 10th December to arrive so I could get my grabby little hands on the e-book and get to reading about their wedding and what came after it.
So I read it late one night; it was small enough to know I could finish it before I had to go to bed. I was flicking through the pages, my emotions were pretty high throughout the first few chapters and when I got to the end I just felt ‘meh’. I felt ‘meh’ about the whole novella and knowing the reason why Abby wanted to quickly get to Las Vegas and marry Travis….well it really got me angry she would do that and throughout the whole novella, I just couldn’t get past her reasoning. It pissed me right out and actually made me dislike Abby a lot.
Travis is still the guy we all know and love and as a dual POV novella, we got to delve into his head and see all different emotions pour from him – from his guilt about the fire and deaths of college people and friends, to his undying love for Abby, how afraid he was that would leave him, how much excitement and joy he was feeling from marrying Abby and how she was most definitely the one. I feel bad saying this but I actually felt that Travis deserved better than Abby because her reasoning sucked ass big time.
I did think the letter was so cute though, and I did tear up when I read it. To keep it for 17 years, close to Travis’ heart and to give it to Abby, we all know she is his one and he will do whatever to keep her forever. One line that hit me in the chest and I suppose Abby too was – “and when a Maddox boy falls in love, he loves forever.” CRIES!! Because that was utterly true. Everything in that letter was true.
In a way, I think not knowing why they got married would have been the best way forward, but I know that many people probably wanted to know. For me it went either way. I was happy with how Walking Disaster finished and how their live together ended up, and although I did want to read this novella, I just feel a bit disappointed in it.
I will say that the wedding was super sweet though, it was everything they never had the first time and I did tear up throughout that too. Especially when America’s dad says something when giving Abby away…holy crap, he is amazing and that was a great part.
I know many people who loved this novella though, so if you are uhming and ahhing about it, take a chance, you may love it…but for me, I just didn’t. I think I will stick to just reading Beautiful/Walking Disaster to get my Travis fix. (And of course, The Maddox novels that will be coming out 😀 )
