Getting drunk homecoming night your senior year is never a good idea, but Jake Hayes never expected it all to end with a car crash and a t-post embedded in his throat.
His biggest regret about it all? What he never said to Samantha Shay. He’s been in love with her for years and never had the guts to tell her. Now it’s too late. Because after that night, Jake will never be able to talk again.
When Jake returns to his small island home, population 5,000, he’ll have to learn how to deal with being mute. He also finds that his family isn’t limited to his six brothers and sisters, that sometimes an entire island is watching out for you. And when he gets the chance to spend more time with Samantha, she’ll help him learn that not being able to talk isn’t the worst thing that could ever happen to you. Maybe, if she’ll let him, Jake will finally tell her what he didn’t say before, even if he can’t actually say it.

My Review
I finished this book in a few hours, and it took me ages to think of a way to express myself. The idea of this book got my really intrigued that I just had to download it and read it. The thought that the main character Jake became a mute due to a accident was a completely different concept to any book I had ever read – I’m mostly into my whole romance books where nothing ever really happens and they fall madly in love, but with this book, i was completely lost in it within the first couple of pages.
From the first page you find out that Jake lives on a small island, he’s one of seven and he has two best friends called Carter and Rain. So of course, everyone knows everyone. But then Jake confesses that he’s been in love with this girl called Sam for years yet he hasn’t had the courage to tell her.
From the synopsis, you get the gist of what happens to Jake and how much it has turned his life upside down. He cant join the Air Force now, due to not being able to speak and he has to either write things down on pieces of paper or sign to people – those who know sign language like Sam and Kiri and some of his family who have learned it.
Sam also has things going on in her life that she finally confesses to Jake one night when she is fed up of him being down when her life is turned upside down too by a tragedy. Together, they both find a way to save each other, and although Sam doesn’t believe in love, you can see that she does love Jake, she just doesn’t want to admit it.I did love what happened after Sam and Jake got back from Prom and what she had done. That was really sweet.
Reading this book, it made me think about if i was a mute, if i had gone through something like Jake and would never be able to speak again. Sometimes its nice not to speak for a while, but for the rest of your life? Not being able to yell or scream, you;d be so frustrated, and although Jake was strong about it; tried not to let it get to him too much, in the end, he found love with the one girl who he had loved for years.
